Cronk, Krepps and Fryling find the net
Grant 3 Hart 0 Shaking off the rust after a 3 week layoff Grant shut out the visiting Pirates on Friday to move to 1-1 on the season. Coach Gomez de Leon: “The Lady Tigers were excited to get back on the field despite the cold. Stepping onto the field they had one goal in mind, possession. They started off the game with textbook plays up lateral sides and some great cross balls. Unfortunately, Tigers were not positioned well to crash the net. “Time was winding down in the first half when suddenly Freshman Lola Cronk had a breakaway down the left side of the field and sent a solid shot into the net from far left. With continued pressure in our opponent's half, Makayla Cronk, senior, took a dangerous corner from the left that crossed all the way to the far right post where Hart's defense attempted to clear. Hart's defensive player had a long first touch; to which Liliana Krepps, Freshman, took advantage of and ran in to place the ball in the back of Hart's net. “Ahead by two, Tigers wanted more and with the first half coming to an end we were becoming desperate. Unfortunately for Hart, a foul was committed for which we were awarded a direct kick. Carli Fryling, senior, took it and placed it over Hart's defensive wall, rainbowing the ball into the net. This ended the first half at 3-0 in favor of the Lady Tigers. “By the time the second half started, the Tigers were gassed and although hungry for more points Hart played a frustrating off side trap. Our defensive line led by Sydney Higgins and Avery Geisen, both seniors, was also put to the test. Overall it was a win the ladies wanted and achieved, but it definitely highlighted areas we need to work on.” The Tigers resume play and kick off their conference season Monday when they host Big Raids. Game time is 4:30pm.
