Asbaugh knocks down 32 on Senior Night

A career high 32 point performance including 14 in the first quarter helped propel the Tigers past the Vikings for the non conference win. Natalia Rodriguez (11) Bella Welch (10) also reached double figures. Coach Delamater: “With all of the emotions surrounding the game, the girls buckled down and played a great basketball game. Julie was exceptional tonight, breaking her career high. Defensively, everyone did a great job of rotating and keeping the Whitehall players in check. A special thanks for the hard work and determination from our seniors Julie Horning, Bella Welch, Natalia Rodriguez, and Julie Ashbaugh.” Now the Tigers can focus on the much anticipated title match with Morley Stanwood on Friday. The teams are deadlocked at 8-1 in conference play making the game a winner-take-all contest Newaygo 48 Shelby 41 Newaygo led 29-21 at half, 35-30 after the 3rd and were able to pull away from the Tigers in the 4th quarter to secure the win. Coach Thomasma:"Good bounce back win for the girls after a tough loss last night. We shot the ball well and played good defense. Ruby Hughes stepped up and filled in and played a great game for us. Rebounded really well. I thought Elsha hit some big buckets early in the game to get our confidence going. Shelby also played really tough. They had some injuries but really battled against us. Happy to get the victory on Senior Night.” Amaya Lathrop led the Lions with 13 points, 5 steals and 3 assists. Ruby Hughes had 12 points and 14 rebounds. Naomi Schillman had 9 points and Elsha Jibson had 7 big first half points. Newaygo (10-9, 3-6) wraps up their conference play Friday when they visit Chippewa Hills. Monday Muskegon Oakridge 46 Newaygo 38 Newaygo led by 5 going into the 4th quarter but Oakridge outscored the Lions 21-8 in the final frame to take the victory. Coach Thomasma:"The game tonight came down FT's and missed layups. We were 5-13 from the line, they were 13-20. Credit to them. They made the shots in the 4th quarter to win the game." Amaya Lathrop led the LIons with 12 points, 5 steals and 3 assists. Addison Goodin had 6 points and 10 rebounds. Naomi Schillman chipped in 6 points.
