Grant 66 Holton 26 The Tigers grabbed a 17-8 lead after one and held the undermanned Red Devils to just 4 points in the second to hit halftime up by 19. Coach Delamater”This was the start of a huge week for us. We knew Holton would not be a team to take lightly. They were without some of their varsity girls, which allowed us to put a lot of pressure on them in the full court. I thought our girls did a fantastic job tonight. A lot of the stuff we've been emphasizing was done well tonight. We held (Ryann) Robins to 7 points and did a good job keeping her off the glass. Our transition game was fantastic, and we got some great minutes from a lot of different girls tonight. Lily Krepps continued her stellar play off the bench, knocking down 5 threes tonight! The highlights of the night came in the fourth quarter when senior Julie Ashbaugh canned a three from the top of the key to tie the school scoring record and then moments later hit a two to score her 1055th point and take sole possession of the record!” Coach Jordan: “This was a tough one for us, already out 1 starter due to sickness, I get a message this morning that two other girls are out sick. I only have 8 on the team and 3 are out sick so we canceled the Jv game and I had to pull up a few Jv players just to have a bench. Issue with that is they haven't practiced with us all year and we are going against a really good Grant team that applies full court pressure all game. It was a perfect scenario for us to get steam rolled and that's exactly what happened. We checked out early on this one ,But We need to be at full strength and play a good game to have a chance tonight and neither of those two things happened tonight for us. We just have to reset and move on from tonight.Hopefully we can get healthy by Thursday as we have a huge rematch with N. Muskegon for 3rd place in the conference and we felt we let one slip away last time we played them , when we lost in overtime after a terrible first half.” Robins finished with 13 rebounds to go with her 7 points while Layla Cannady led the RD’s in scoring with 10. Abbie Fowler also booked 7 points and dished out a quartet of assists. Grant (11-3, 7-0) will host White Cloud (7-11, 2-6) on Wednesday and Holton (12-6, 5-4) will host North Muskegon (10-7, 5-4) on Thursday. Newaygo 50 Orchard View 20 The Lions made it 4 in a row taking a 23-14 lead at intermission then bursting out of the locker room with an 18-2 run that iced the game. Coach Thomasma: "Had another slow start tonight. We have to figure out how to get locked in and focused at the start of the game. The girls responded well coming out of the locker room at halftime. All 10 girls really executed and played well in the second half. It was a good team win for the group. We have a physical and good Big Rapids team coming in on Thursday. We must clean up a few things if we want to stay in the game with them. Naomi Schillman led the Lions with 14 points, Maria Riddering had 11 points and 7 steals and Amaya Lathrop contributed 8 points and 6 steals. Newaygo (9-7, 3-5) will host Big Rapids on Thursday.
