Reed City 60 Grant 41 Big Rapids 53 White Cloud 48 (OT) Monday’s CSAA Tourney featured a pair of much anticipated rematches in the top tier. Both Grant and White Cloud were seeking to avenge losses earlier in the season, but both would have to accomplish this by playing in the less than welcoming environments high school gyms seem to amplify this time of year. Grant was facing a Reed City team that had run through their conference schedule undefeated and only 2 teams came within double figures of the Coyotes. The game played out eerily similar to their first matchup. The tema were close until the second half when Reed City pulled away for the win. As they have all seasons the Coyote defense rose to the occasion holding the Tigers to just 12 points after the break. Lucas Swanson and Zaiden Phillips led the team in scoring with 7 each. Blake Rider added 6 and Ethan DeLong chipped in 5. Meanwhile, just south of that game in Big Rapids the Cloud looked like they were going to have another shot at the Yotes as they battled to an 18-13 lead at halftime, pushed the lead to 9 entering the final frame and led by as much as 11 with 6 minutes left. But the Cardinal sharpshooters got hot and began raining the 3 pointers while the visitors were struggling to score. With the game knotted at 42 the Cloud held out for a winning shot but the game ended going into overtime where a quick Cardinal lead and some hot shooting from the charity stripe iced the game for the Cards. Coach Jones: “ This one will sting for a long time. We battled our butts off, but we couldn't hold the lead and let BR back into the game down the stretch in the fourth quarter. “We have to get right back at on Wednesday night when we host Grant.” KJ Strait paced the Cloud scoring attack with a dozen points, while Jared Watson hit for 11, Noah Robinson collected 10, and Jayson Ruether finished with 9. The Hornets advanced with an overtime win at Kent City. The first time the teams met the Lions outran the Hornets in a track race that ended with the teams pouring in 159 points between them.
