Nelson erupts in the ‘cap
Photos by Kacey Nelson Reed City 7-2 Fremont 6-10 In the opener the Packers held a one run lead with 3 outs to go but the Coyotes rallied in their final at bat pushing a pair of runners across the plate to seal the win. Jaxon Deur posted an even dozen K’s in his 6+ innings but timely hits kept Reed City in the game and a late run set the stage for their comeback. Payton Mansfield went yard in the 3rd and added a double in the game to finish with 3 RBI’s. Joey DeLong scored twice and added an RBI, Logan Nelson singled twice, scored and knocked one in and Brenden Maka also sent a teammate across the plate. In the nightcap Nelson put on a dominant plate performance with a pair of round trippers to go with a double and single accounting for 4 RBI’s. He set the stage in the 1st delivering a lead off homer and his second 4 bagger came in the 5th when the Packers posted a 7 on the scoreboard to put the game out of reach. Joe Kortge drove in 3 and Drew DeBlake doubled in a pair as Fremont salvaged the split in this conference double dip. Gabe VanVleet scattered 4 hits over 5 innings to get the win while Michael Baden held the ‘Yotes hitless over the final 2 innings. The Packer defense also performed well with just a single miscue in game 2. The Packers are now 20-4-1 and will head to Marsh Field in Muskegon Friday night to take on the Ludington Orioles.
