Fremont 65 Chippewa Hills 60 In a close game much like the one played earlier this season at CH the Packers prevailed at home coming back from a 4 point deficit entering the final frame to pull out the win behind some timely baskets and late game success at the charity stripe. Coach Zerlaut: "It wasn't pretty, but the girls found a way to win. We really struggled defensively tonight to stop Chip. Credit to them for continuing to attack the basket and expose our defense. We committed 22 fouls to their 15, and they had a 35-12 advantage in free throw opportunities. Wins haven't been plentiful for us this season, but I was really glad the girls found a way to get it done in the fourth quarter and was happy for our seniors to walk off the floor for their final home game with a win." Khaila Noordyk was on fire in the first half dropping 14 of her team high 18 points while taking charge on the glass with 9 boards.. Haley Zerlaut hit for 14 points dished out 9 assists and grabbed 6 steals and Mia Witte also reached double figures finishing with 13 points. Jessica Bennett pulled down 6 rebounds to go with her 9 points.6 rebounds. The Packers finish the regular season Friday at Reed City, before beginning district play on Monday night against Comstock Park. Newaygo 40 Reed City 24 The Coyotes gave the Lions a game in the first half as the teams hit intermission with Newaygo clutching a 2 point lead. The second half was a different story as the Gold champs ran away from the Warriors to stay undefeated in conference play. Coach Thomasma: "Tough win tonight for us tonight. Reed City out hustled us a bit in the first half and we were sloppy with the basketball. Second half was a different story. We took care of the ball and didn't give them any easy buckets. I thought Emmerson really took over in the third quarter and sparked us a bit. We played really well defensively the whole game and that really kept us in it. "Last game for our four Seniors at Newaygo (Goodin, Swinehart, Fisk and Long). They will go out having not lost a home game in over two years which is a tremendous accomplishment. These girls are not only great players and leaders, but great people. Very smart and also mentally and physically tough. Hopefully we can keep getting better as Districts approach next week. Emmerson Goodin led the Lions with 16 points, 12 rebounds and 7 steals. Kayla Fisk chipped in 13 points to go along 4 steals. Jaxi Long had 8 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals. Newaygo (13-0 , 18-1) winds up their conference schedule with a visit to Chip Hills Friday before heading to Comstock Park next Wednesday to face the survivor of the Fremont/Park matchup.
