Story by Michael Paige The Division 2 Region 10 meet was held Friday at Chippewa Hills. For Fremont, senior Sean Pettis continued his fine season finishing 1st overall as regional champion with a time of 16:16, about 14 seconds better than his time at the same race a year ago. He earned All-Region honors and qualified for state. Junior Carter Sherman ran a strong race and finished 10th with a time of 16:47 also good for All-Region honors and a trip to the state finals. Sophomore Isaac Romero (17:36), junior Cole Lowery (18:03) and junior Blake Taylor (18:31) rounded out the top five. The boys’ team placed 4th with 112 points. Gladwin, Petoskey and Sparta advanced to the state finals. On the girls’ side, the team placed 8th with 195 pts, 1 point out of 7th. They were ranked 9th in the region coming in. According to Coach Somers, “the course ran much slower than last week (Late Season Warrior Invite) due to the wind and some pretty muddy footing in some areas. I am really happy with the way the girls ran the race. They got out well and put themselves in positions to compete.” Sophomore Linnea Paige finished 6th at 19:51, earning All-Region honors and qualifying for the state finals. Sophomore Joelle Patten placed 25th with a PR. She ran 39 seconds faster than the week prior on the same course. Sophomore Rocquel Richards continued to improve, taking one minute 50 seconds off her time at the same race last year and placing 48th. In her last race in the red and white stripes, senior Elise Pfeiffer placed 57th with a time of 23:37. According to Coach, freshman Kira Manchip “ran her best race of the season” and placed 59th with a time of 23:53. Junior Rachel Maddox and freshman Jessie Kendziorski also ran for the Pack. In team scoring, Ludington, Petoskey and Cadillac qualified for the state finals. Other individual area runners qualifying for the state meet, include, Whitehall junior Cami Kraai (8th – 20:14) and Newaygo senior Remington Arney (11th – 20:50). The Division 2 Finals are at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday November 4. The girls run at 1:30, boys at 2:50.
