Bennet hits for 25 in tournament opener
Fremont 53 Reed City 49 Morley Stanwood 55 Fremont 46 The Packers competed in the Reed City Holiday Tournament over the weekend splitting the action with a win over the host Coyotes in the semi final before falling to Morley in the title game. Fremont and Reed City stayed close throughout the game and were tied deep into the final frame before the Packers managed to put the last 4 points in the bucket to secure the win. Jessica Bennett dropped a career high 25 points adding 7 rebounds while Mia Clemence took down 10 boards to go with her 10 points. Taylor DeKuiper put together a triplicate with 5 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals and Katie Ackerman finished with 5 assists and 7 rebounds. The Packers stayed close in the title game for most of the first half before the firepower of the ‘Hawks allowed them to break away, building the lead to 19. But the Packers weren’t done yet as they fired off an 11-0 run to get within 8 at the 3 minute mark. Morley regrouped and held off the Pack to capture the win and the tournament title. Bennett and Clemence each tallied 13 points while Eliana VandenBerk and Khaila Noordyk hit for 6 apiece, DeKuiper scored 4 and Grace Evans added 3. Fremont (3-2, 2-0) returns to the court Wednesday when they travel to Tri County (1-5, 1-3).
