Cloud win over Tigers sets up a showdown in the county seat
Photos by Cassie Rickert White Cloud 77 Grant 70 Earlier this week we wrote about White Cloud’s road to a share of the title. Deadlocked with Grant for second place, a win on the Tiger home court would set up a Friday showdown with frontrunner Reed City. But it wasn’t going to be easy. The Tigers are a tenacious team who came into this one with 7 wins in their last 8 games and taking this one would keep them in the hunt for a share of the crown. The Tigers took a 23-18 lead after one but by the time the teams hit halftime the Cloud had closed the gap and the teams were tied at 38. It was a game of runs as the teams battled back and forth in the second half but the visitors held on at the end to secure the win. KJ Strait dropped a game high 30 points while Jarred Watson (17), Noah Robinson (15) and Jayden Robinson(14) also reached double figures. Oakley Obenauf paced the Tiger attack, hitting for 22 points, while Zaiden Phillips knocked down 17 and Ethan DeLong added 10. Grant (12-5, 7-2) hosts Kent City on Friday. The win by White Cloud (16-3, 8-1) sets up a wild one this Friday as the Coyotes (16-3, 9-0) bring their first place squad into town to not only face a talented and tough Cloud team, but also the highly spirited, boisterous group of students, parents, alumni and just plain fans who fill the stands on game night. Should be a dandy.
