Early goal by Hefferan Nordlund proves to be game winner
Story and photos by Tara Hefferan The Newaygo Lions shut out the Reed City Coyotes at home, with a final score of 1-0. The players described tonight’s game as a “back and forth” affair, with ball possession alternating between the two teams. Sofia Briggs and Lynnea Briones led a robust backline, largely keeping the Coyotes away from the Lions’ net. The Lions used their strong passing game to launch more shots on frame. The only goal came in the first half, as Connelly Hefferan Nordlund sent the ball into the top corner of the net, off an assist from Grace Painter. Coach Painter: "Our girls came out and played a solid game. We were able to maintain good possession throughout the game, stringing together passes that frequently resulted in shots on goal. Although we had numerous good attempts, we were only able to find the back of the net on one occasion! Sofia Briggs had another fabulous game leading our back line and initiating many of our attacks with good passes up to our midfielders. As an entire team, we continue to improve with each game!"
