Facing a 32-10 deficit after intermission the visitors regrouped and played their hosts evenly the rest of the way. Coach Thomasma: "We played a pretty good second half against a tough, talented and well coached Mohawks team. We have put together some strings of pretty good basketball this year but not for 4 quarters yet. We had a bad stretch in the 2nd period where we tucked our chins a bit out of frustration and against a state ranked team, they will make you pay for it everytime. We showed some character after halftime, responded well and just played ball. We hit some shots and took care of the ball and it showed on the scoreboard. Hopefully we can use that as a springboard the rest of the year. Naomi Schillman led the Lions in scoring with 11 points as she fired in a trio of triples in the second half. Kija Schultz scored 8 points to go with 6 rebounds and 4 steals while Lillian Holmespulled 9 off the glass and added 7 points. Newaygo (4-4, 1-3) will host North Muskegon (5-3, 3-1) on Tuesday.
