Busy Day For Tiger Netters. The Tigers swept through the match with Manistee Thursday the first of their two on the day. In singles play, Olivia Keelean, Emerson Cole, Jill Arends, and Kierstyn Throop won their matches without dropping a single game. In doubles Brooklyn Presler and Kathryn Stong came back after dropping the first set 5-7 to win the second 6-4 and then won the tiebreaker 10-6 at #1 Doubles. Miriam Delgado and Sydney Patin, playing at#2 doubles, won 6-3 6-4. At #3 doubles, Elvira Cruz and Cecilia Ovalle won 6-0 6-1. Grant followed up the match with the Chippewas by hosting the visiting Crusaders from MCC. The Tiger singles dominated again winning all matches 6-0 6-0. Olivia Keelean (1S), Emerson Cole (2S), Jill Arends (3S), and Kirstyn Throop (4S). #1 doubles of Presler and Stong won 1 and 1. Cruz and Ovalle won again only giving up 2 games at #3 doubles. And Liberty Pleune and Kaitlin Pascoe cruised to a 6-0 6-0 win at #4 doubles to finish undefeated on the day. Tigers Finish Close Second In Lakeview Tourney
On Saturday Grant defeated Lakeview 16-5 in five innings to win the opening game of the Lakeview Tournament and move to the championship game. MaKenzie Ritz picked up the win scattering 7 hits, striking out 3 and walking 3. Alyssa VanSingel led Grant with 4 hits and 5 RBIs. Allie Dubbink, Carlie Stray, and Trinity Swanson all added 3 hits for the Tigers. The Championship Game of the Lakeview HS Tournament ended up going extra innings with Belding defeating Grant 3-2, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the eighth. With two outs in the seventh, Grant's Carlie Stray tied the game with a 2-RBI double to force extra innings, but the Tigers came up short in the extra inning. Delanie Jensen and Trinity Swanson each added 2 hits for Grant.
