Tigers outlast Vikings, Lions win #3 in Packerland, Red Devils notch 4th over Cloud, Panthers clawed by Cats

On the opening drive Trevor Lowry busted through for a 20 yard gain to bring the ball to the Viking one yard line then took it in for 6 as the Tigers drew first blood in what turned into a defensive stalemate for much of the game. The conversion failed to make it 6-0 Grant.
The Bengals were aided on the drive by 3 Viking penalties, each rescuing the hosts from 3rd and long situations.
The Vikes got a good return close to midfield but their drive led by quarterback Nicholas Braunschneider fell short and the Tigers took over on their own 20.
TC’s defense stiffened forcing a punt that gave the Vikings good field position and four plays later Braunschneider found Cameren Friend for a 26 yard scoring strike. Braunschneider followed up by running the two point conversion in and the visitors went on top 8-6.
The teams exchanged punts then the Tigers began another drive that was cut short when Hunter Dewey snared an interception for TC. The Vikings could not capitalize and punted away after Billy Ostyn broke up a potential first down pass.
Following the punt TC was hit with another penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct and also had a player ejected from the game.
A Chase Lowry to Brett Long pass put the Tigers in scoring position but once again Dewey came up big for TC with a goaline interception and soon after the half expired.
The Vikings took the second half kickoff but their efforts to move the ball downfield was hampered by a familiar foe...penalties. A holding call and the third unsportsmanlike conduct infraction of the night took them out of the drive and they yielded the ball on downs.
Deep in their own territory the Tigers went to work. Ostyn pulled in a 15 yard gainer from Chase Lowry and Trevor Lowry broke free for a 45 yard run to the TC 20. C. Lowry fought his way out of a sack situation then runs by .T Lowry Ostyn and C. Lowry brought the ball to the 6 where Trevor Lowry was treated to a sizeable hole by the O-line and went into the endzone untouched to give Grant the lead back.
Ahead 12-8 they went for the 2 point conversion and got it when Chase hit Trevor with a pass for the score and a 14-8 advantage.
On the ensuing kickoff Brady Jacobs recovered a fumble and the Tigers were in business again.
The teams both put some solid defense on display and three punts later TC had the ball on their own 40 .They drove into the red zone looking to score when Isaiah Powell stepped in front of  a pass and came away with the interception.
The TC defense rose to the occasion forcing another punt and getting the ball in Tiger territory with 3 minutes on the clock.
Two incomplete passes made it 3rd and 10 and the next pass was completed but unfortunately in found the hands of Grant db Jarrod Howell and the Tigers ran out the clock and came away with win number 3 on the season.
The Tigers will host Fremont Friday while the Vikings will be at home trying to cool off a red hot Newaygo squad.

Connor Swinehart tossed 5 first half touchdowns and the Lions never let the Packers in the game as the Lions rolled to their third straight win and kept their playoff hopes simmering.
The Packer defense was no match for the explosiveness of the Newaygo passing game that piled up 191 yards to complement the 188 yards tallied by the  ground game. The Lions did not punt once during the game.
It was midway through the fourth quarter when the hosts finally got on the board via  a 15 yard run by Zane Stroven who finished with 90 hard fought yards. Kane Widing added 32 rushing yards and led the team in tackles with 8.

Holton 65 White Cloud 8
Aaron Herron had 6 touches and scored on half of them  as the Red Devils dominated play during their visit to the Cloud.  Drew Trygstad tossed a pair of TD passes to Derk Pouch and Kaleb Kitchka while Pouch and Austin Hawkins added rushing scores as well.
“Very proud of the way ours kids showed up tonight,” said Coach Nummerdor. “ We knew we wanted to clean some things up and it happened. It was a great job by both of our lines tonight.  Offensively everything was clicking and the defense was stout.”
Nathan Slowik converted 6 of 7  PATs and added a touchdown on a punt return and Ricky Enders pulled off a pick 6 on the defensive side. Draven Wyant spent a lot of time in the Indian backfile finishing with a sack a fumble recovery and 8 tackles. Johnny Dominish led the Devils with 11 tackles and added an interception and Mitch Ross finished with 10 tackles.
Late in the 4th quarter Devin Kakoczki broke free and rambled down the sidelines for 65 yards and a touchdown to put the Indians on the board. Kakoczki then followed up by finding the endzone on a 2 point conversion.
“The boys showed great character at the end of the game and reminded everyone in attendance just how special of a game football is,” added Coach Nummerdor.
The Indian defense was led by Adrian Rodriguez with 6 tackles with Levi Graham and Alex Doke adding 5 tackles each.
The Devils will host Lakeview Friday and a win against the Wildcats would push Holton closer to the postseason spot that has eluded them the last 10 seasons.
White Cloud will welcome in the Mohawks of Morley.

Lakeview 33 Hesperia 0
The Wildcats tallied twice in the first quarter and twice more in the third while holding the Panther offense scoreless. The hosts moved the ball on the ground led by Logan Pearson who finished with 95 yards but the Lakeview squad stiffened in the red zone and picked a pair of passes as well.
Johnny Segura led the defense with 13 tackles and Ashton Arnold added 7 with an interception.
The schedule doesn’t get any easier for the Panthers who will welcome in league leading, state ranked, and undefeated Kent City Friday.

Kent City 42 Morley Stanwood 7
Gio Weeks scored 5 touchdowns and the Mohawks were never in the game as the Eagles continued their march to the playoffs with a convincing win on the road.

In recent years the Warriors have been the team who has challenged the Gold supremacy of the football machine that is Reed City. They came into this season having lost just 3 Gold games in the past three years with all 3 winds belonging to the ‘Yotes. This year’s Warrior team came in with a loss and a couple of squeaker wins in the conference and hoped to snap a 9 game losing streak to Reed City.
They didn’t. The Coyotes dominated play and shut down the CH offense completely enroute to their 5th straight win on the season and their 28th consecutive conference win
