Lions. Pack, Cloud, Tigers go down; Panthers ice Devils Comstock Park 43 Newaygo 12 After a potential scoring drive came to an end deep in Panther territory the visitors pushed into Lion territory and booted a field goal to open the scoring. The teams then exchanged touchdowns before the half and hit intermission with the Panthers holding a 9-3 edge. The second half saw Park take charge as they followed up a score with a pick 6. A Lion fumble gave CP good field position for another score but Isaiah Lopez snared an interception to get the ball back. Unfortunately they turned it over on the next play and Park was able to spin the turnover into another score and suddenly it was 37-6. Comstock Park wrapped up the scoring with a 4th quarter TD and the Lions finished the season with their 4th loss in a row. Blake Kerr led the team with 65 rushing yards 95 passing yards and a passing TD while Dylan Bazzett had 9 catches for 85 yards and two TDs, one from Kerr and the other from Harkness. Defensively the Lions were led by Grant Harkness with 7 tackles and Isaiah Lopez had 6 tackles with an interception, forced fumble, and a pass break up. Newaygo ended the season with a 2-7 mark. The season finale with a shot at finishing with a winning record and Homecoming to boot. But the playoff bound Chips came in with other ideas. The visitors doubled up the Packers in total yardage and offensive plays while tripling their hosts in time of possession. They controlled the game from kickoff to final gun and it took a 60 yard TD pass from Kyler DeKuiper to Gabe Curtice in the 4th quarter to keep the Pack from being shut out for the third time this season. DeKuiper connected on both of his pass attempts while pulling in 3 passes from Talen Reichert-Slater for 43 yards. Reichert-Slater finished with 7 completions for 83 yards.Justin Dirheimer led the Packers in rushing with 51 yards on 12 attempts. On defense Michael Romero once again led the team in tackles followed by Gabe VanVleet and Comnnor Pettis. THe Packers finish the season 4-5 with 4 of the 5 losses coming against playoff teams. White Pigeon 55 White Cloud 0 The Cloud will know Sunday if they are to play a game 10 but their trip to White Pigeon didn’t help their cause. The Chiefs romped past their visitors holding the potent WC offense scoreless for the first time this season. White Cloud finishes their regular season with a 6-3 mark. Kent City 52 Grant 14 It was over after 12 minutes. The Eagles scored 24 points in the first quarter and never looked back as they prepared for the second season with a dominating performance over the Tigers. Grant lost for the 7th time in a row to finish the season 1-8.. Hesperia 38 Holton 0 The Red Devils handed the Golden Football back to the Panthers in this rivalry matchup. Hesperia ends the season on a high note despite a 2-7 record while Holton’s youthful team finishes 0-9.
