Lions, Tigers, Panthers, Devs, and Pack at home. Cloud hits the road...maybe
Reed City (2-2, 2-3) at Newaygo (2-2, 2-3) A few years back this was a simmering rivalry starting in ‘12 when after taking a beating in the regular season the Lions knocked the ‘Yotes from the post season with a dramatic win. Two years later the Lions beat RC in the season and when they met in the playoffs it was the Coyotes time to howl ousting a good Lions team. Since then Reed City has dominated the series winning 7 of 8 with most being by 5 or 6 touchdowns. The teams come into this one with identical records, both getting beat by Big Rapids and Tri County though the Coyotes stayed in each game quite a bit longer than the Lions. Both need a win to keep any possible postseason hopes alive. If Newaygo can hang around and keep it close anything can happen, but if their visitors jump out early it could be a long night for Lion fans. Big Rapids (4-0, 4-1) at Grant (0-3, 1-4) The Cardinals are heading for a showdown with the Vikings next week that will likely decide the title but they won’t be looking past this one. The Tigers have really struggled on offense and while the defense has played well they just spend way too much time on the field. Not saying the Tigers don’t have a chance but they’re averaging less than 10 points in their last 3 games and they’ll likely need triple that to have a shot here. Orchard View (0-2, 2-3) at Fremont (0-2, 2-3) In 2019 the Cards went undefeated in the regular season capturing one of the last Lakes 8 titles.Going into this season they had won just one game on the field since Little wonder there was enthusiasm among the OV faithful when they began the season 2-0, albeit over 2 teams who have yet to post a W. In the three games since they haven’t been close after the first quarter. The Packers had opportunities to beat Oakridge last week, had a couple of plays gone their way, but the Eagles held them off then scored late to ice the game. The Packers can move the ball and should be in a position to put up some yards in this one. With three pretty tough weeks ahead on the schedule they need to take this one and should, barring the untimely turnovers they have been prone to. The defense has been decent if you can overlook Ludington running wild in game 3 and the Cards have had trouble getting the ball into the endzone. White Cloud (0-1, 3-2) at Muskegon Hts. (0-4) If the Heights are able to field a team the Indians will notch win #4 and keep their postseason hopes alive. If not they’ll still get #4. The Tigers forfeited their last game and have been outscored 94-0 in the three they were able to play. Ravenna (2-1, 2-3) at Hesperia ( 0-2, 1-4) The Panthers have scored 7,7,7,& 6 in their last 4 games. That’s not enough to win many games and it certainly isn’t enough to compete with the Dawgs. Ravenna’s only wins have been over teams with a losing record, but they are still hanging on in the conference race and a win sets up a showdown with conference rabbit North Muskegon. The Panthers would need an inspired defensive effort then toss in the discovery of a more potent offense and add a break or two and maybe, just maybe…but not likely. Shelby (0-2, 1-4) at Holton (0-2, 0-5) The two touchdowns by the Red Devils last week equaled their total scoring in the first four games. The Tigers haven’t fared much better on offense but they put it in the endzone 3 times against Hesperia last week. The RD’s are having one tough season and while this is one of the few games they might have a shot at avoiding a winless season, it’s a pretty long one. Central Montcalm (1-2, 2-3) at Tri County (3-0, 5-0) The Vikings can score in bunches and with a trip to Cardianal country next week they would like to put this one away early. The Hornet offense can sting as well but I’d be surprised if they can do it often enough to stay with Coach Butler’s point-a-minute guys.
