Chippewa Hills visited the Packers of Fremont on Monday afternoon for a conference matchup. Bre Harris and Holly Kortge of Fremont scored two goals apiece and Alex Langley added the final tally for the 5-0 Packer victory. Natalie Jamieson and Harris each had single assists in the match as well. The Packers outshot Chippewa Hills 17-1. Audrey Johnson made the save in net for the Packers. Fremont improves to 6-3-1 overall and 5-3 in the conference.

The Tigers finished in second place by only a single point at the Otsego Invitational, with 17 points. Marshall finished with 18 points. The Grant team tied Marshall head to head 4-4, beat Otsego 5-3 and defeated Plainwell 8-0. Championship medals were brought home from #3 and 4 singles, Jill Arends and Kirstyn Throop, as well as #4 doubles Kaitlin Pascoe and Liberty Pleune. The Tigers earned runner up medals at #1 singles, Olivia Keelean, #2 singles, Emerson Cole, and #3 doubles, Elvira Cruz and Cecilia Ovalle. The team had 22 sets that were either 6-0 or 6-1.
Lakeview 8 Grant 6
The Tigers lost despite out-hitting Lakeview ten to seven. "We played good enough to get a win but we had a hiccup in the 5th inning and couldn't completely recover from it,” said Coach Rider. “ Even after the fifth we kept putting pressure on them and had the game tying run on 2nd in the last inning." In the second inning, Lakeview got their offense started when Harris singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. Grant tallied four runs in the sixth inning. The Tiger batters contributing to the big inning included Tristen Chesebro, Cole Lesley, and Nic Anderson, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. "Cole had a big at bat for us, especially considering it was his first of the season. This was his first live game action since coming of an elbow injury. He jumped on the first pitch and sent it to right field." The Wildcats scored six runs in the fifth inning powered by Larsen, Harriss, Cole, Lockwood, and Nummer, who each drove in runs. Voelker got the start for Lakeview and went lsix and two-thirds innings, allowing ten hits and six runs while striking out seven. Chesebro led things off on the hill for Grant Tigers Varsity allowing two hits and three runs over three innings while striking out eight. Kyle Bay and Isaiah Powell entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two and a third innings and one and two-thirds innings respectively. "This was Tristen's best start of the season by far. Hopefully he can bring what he did on the mound into Tuesdays' game against Tri-County." Grant racked up ten hits on the day. Bay, Chesebro, and Ryan Hether each collected multiple hits for Grant. Bay led Grantwith three hits in four at bats.. Grant 9 Farwell 5 Farwell scored three runs in the second inning, but Grant still won 9-5 The Tigers got things going in the first inning by putting up a quick 4 runs. The second inning continued the scoring when they put up four more on the board. Tigers batters contributing to the big inning included Tristen Chesebro, Elliott Butchart, and Jed Vander Weide, who each had RBIs in the inning. Dalton Wagner toed the rubber for the Tigers. He lasted two innings, allowing four hits and three runs. "Dalton got the start for us today but was having a little soreness in his arm so he was cut short. Jed came in and pitched his best outing of the season," said Coach Rider. "One thing I have been stressing with our pitchers is to throw strikes and limit the walks. Jed threw five innings today and had only 1 walk. That gave us a chance to make plays on defense and stay on our toes." Cogswell started the game for Farwell. He went one inning, allowing four runs on three hits, striking out two and walking one. Silvestro and Farinski entered the game as relief, throwing five innings and one inning respectively. Grant racked up ten hits in the game. With Anderson and Chesebro each collecting a pair. "Late in game one today and in this game we started putting together better at bats. We also started getting those clutch hits with runners in score position." "It is no secret that we have a young team, added Coach Rider. “ Today I looked out on the field and there were 7 freshman, one sophomore and a senior. The coaching staff has thrown a lot of information at them and we challenge them each day to be better than the day before. If they can keep this mindset they will be in a good spot down the road." Busy Day For Tiger Netters. The Tigers swept through the match with Manistee Thursday the first of their two on the day. In singles play, Olivia Keelean, Emerson Cole, Jill Arends, and Kierstyn Throop won their matches without dropping a single game. In doubles Brooklyn Presler and Kathryn Stong came back after dropping the first set 5-7 to win the second 6-4 and then won the tiebreaker 10-6 at #1 Doubles. Miriam Delgado and Sydney Patin, playing at#2 doubles, won 6-3 6-4. At #3 doubles, Elvira Cruz and Cecilia Ovalle won 6-0 6-1. Grant followed up the match with the Chippewas by hosting the visiting Crusaders from MCC. The Tiger singles dominated again winning all matches 6-0 6-0. Olivia Keelean (1S), Emerson Cole (2S), Jill Arends (3S), and Kirstyn Throop (4S). #1 doubles of Presler and Stong won 1 and 1. Cruz and Ovalle won again only giving up 2 games at #3 doubles. And Liberty Pleune and Kaitlin Pascoe cruised to a 6-0 6-0 win at #4 doubles to finish undefeated on the day. Tigers Finish Close Second In Lakeview Tourney
On Saturday Grant defeated Lakeview 16-5 in five innings to win the opening game of the Lakeview Tournament and move to the championship game. MaKenzie Ritz picked up the win scattering 7 hits, striking out 3 and walking 3. Alyssa VanSingel led Grant with 4 hits and 5 RBIs. Allie Dubbink, Carlie Stray, and Trinity Swanson all added 3 hits for the Tigers. The Championship Game of the Lakeview HS Tournament ended up going extra innings with Belding defeating Grant 3-2, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the eighth. With two outs in the seventh, Grant's Carlie Stray tied the game with a 2-RBI double to force extra innings, but the Tigers came up short in the extra inning. riday the Cloud Track Team hosted a 3-way as Morley Stanwood and Lakeview came into town for a CSAA Silver meet. The Girls team finished on top of the board garnishing 50 points to outdistance the second place Mohawks who talled 50 and the Wildcats who finished with 29 points DeSheona Holland nabbed a pair of firsts in the 100m (12.56) and the 200m where she blasted to the win with a personal record (pr) of 27.50 and outdistanced her nearest competitor by nearly 3 seconds. That runner was teammate Breanna Sutherland who battled past a challenge from Wildcat Cassie Hogle and finished a solid second at 30.45. Holland also captured second in the 400m (1:06.53). Ella Bowman ran to a first place finish in the 3200m (13.18.0) and came in just behind the pace of Mohawk freshman Dreea Atchison in the 1600 where only 3 seconds separated the top two with the third place runner crossing the line half a minute later. Anica Paul fought off tough competition and leapt to top honors in the Long Jump (13.01) and High Jump (4.06) Haley Thomson set a pr while finishing second in the 200 Hurdles (58.70), while Janessa Shepherd tossed the Shot Put good enough for second place(29.06.0) and hurled the discus to another second place spot (76.06). Bowman and Kayla Pasch tied for runner up in the Pole Vault each reaching 7.00.10 and Elizabeth Rubio took 3rd in the 3200 with a pr of 5.37.60pr The Boys team ran third but got several strong performances Darrion Holland took a pair of first in the 200m (23.32) and 400m (53.46).Chance Montemayor set a personal record (pr) in the 110 Hurdles while finishing second (19.08) while Andrew Newfer took runner up in the discus with a hurl of 111.03 and Steven Holt also notched a second place spot in the long jump with an 18.09 leap. Jordan Richmond (1600m, 5:01.9) and Delton Dowling (Shot Put 37.08.50) each placed third as did Conner LaClair who put up a pr of 13.32.0 in the 3200m Softball On Friday, the Varsity Girls traveled to Kent City and despite getting 10 hits, were only able to manage to score 2 runs and fell by a score of 8 – 2. Hannah Brown had 2 hits with a double, Elexis Plotts and Hallie Schulz each had 2 hits and Allison Schulz added a double. In the 2nd game, a 7 run 5th by Kent City was too much to overcome although the girls put together a rally of their own in the top of the 7th, scoring 7 runs before faling just short by a score of 9 – 8. Hallie Schulz had 2 hits, Madison Smith had a hit and 2 RBI’s, Hannah Brown doubled and knocked in 2 runs and Madeleine Seabrook added a double. The TIgers hosted perennial tennis powerhouse Whitehall Wednesday afternoon. #2 singles Emerson Cole snared a 7-6 (7-3) 6-2 win while Kirstyn Throop defeated her opponent 6-0 6-4 at #4 singles. The #3 Doubles team of Elvira Cruz and Cecilia Ovalle posted a 6-4 6-1 victory.

The Packers went into Lion territory Wednesday and came away with a 7-0 win as keepers Torey Reichert-Slater and Taylor Mulder combined to shut out the hosts.The Packers scored early and often as they took a 5-0 halftime lead. Bre Harris finished with a hat trick and Natalie Jamieson fired in two goals while Elly O'Neill and Holly Kortge each found the back of the net as well. Kortge also chipped in 2 assists, with Harris, Sam Schmidt and Nicole Omans also tallying an assist apiece. The Packers improved to 5-3-1 and 4-3 in the conference. On Tuesday the Indians traveled to Lakeview to take on the Wildcats for the 2nd time in less than a week, a team that is very deep into a rebuilding process and took both ends of the doubleheader. The visitors jumped out with 4 in the 1st, 6 in the 2nd , and 8 in the 3rd enroute to a 18 – 0 win. Hallie Schulz had 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI’s, Hannah Brown added 2 hits with a triple and scored 4 runs, Elexis Plotts and Jordan Bulk each had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s, Allison Schulz had 2 hits with a double and Madeleine Seabrook collected a pair of hits. Hallie Schulz faced the minimum of 9 batters striking out 2 in the 3 inning contest. Game 2 saw the Lady Indians put up 12 runs in the 1st on the way to a 21 – 1 3 inning win. Hannah Brown had 3 hits with a triple, double and 5 RBI’s followed by Hallie Schulz with 2 hits and 4 RBI’s, Madeleine Seabrook with 3 hits including a 2doubleand 2 RBI’s and Allison Schulz added a pair of hits. Kara Davis struck out 4 and allowed only 1 hit to notch the win. The Fremont Packers girls' soccer team traveled to Tri County on Monday evening to take on the Vikings in a conference battle. Tri County was first to score when Mickalia Sprik flicked a ball past the Packers' keeper Taylor Mulder and the half ended with the Vikes holding a 1-0 lead. After intermission Tri County scored again, this time bya Paydin Gillespie goal. Fremont's Taylor Crowley answered just 2 minutes later off a corner kick to pull the Pack to within 2-1. With just 20 minutes to play in the match Fremont's Elly O'Neill tied the game off another corner then Natalie Jamieson netted the third Packer goal of the night on an assist from Holly Kortge. The Packer lead didn't last very long however as Tri County answered to tie the match and then fired in another to take the lead.
With only 2 minutes left in the game Alex Langley knocked a ball up to Bre Harris who beat the defense and the Tri County keeper making the final score 4-4. Taylor Mulder of Fremont made 6 saves on the night and Macy Matulis ended with 5 saves for the Vikings. The Packers were outshot 10-9 by the Vikings. The Packers moved to 4-3-1 overall while the Vikings are now 5-1-2. |
