By: N3 FeatureTeam OK Near Northians can you spell 3 DAY WEEKEND? Yes the usual couple of days to kick back and regroup, but wait, there’s an extra day attached to the end. An entire 24 hour period giving the weekend a 50% increase and as a bonus, reducing the following work week to the four day trek some of us have been waiting for decades to have become the norm. Early weather reports are mixed but most indicate some rain so while being outside and engaging in a bit of appreciation for the natural wonders that abound in these parts, you may want to look into a few options for an occasional duck into dryness should it move from a drizzle to a downpour. ![]() Noshes And Notions By Terrie Ortwein Fire Up the Grill!! Memorial Day means so much to so many. First and foremost, it is a time to reflect and remember those who died while serving our country. And the Memorial Day Weekend is the kickoff - the kickoff to the summer season. It’s when everyone generally opens their cottages for the season, the beginning of the local festival season and when we plant our gardens. It’s when we officially get out all the patio and deck furniture, wash the windows and fire up the grill for that first official gathering of family and friends. And we welcome the grill with open arms. We are tired of comfort food. We want grilled stuff. If you like certain food items cooked in your oven or... Bored during the week? ![]() Megan Again By Megan Wirts Someone posted a question on Facebook a while back asking what advice you would give your 17-year-old self in four words. Mine advice was, “Always wear comfortable shoes.” It was the first thought that came to me. When I was younger I made terrible and uncomfortable shoe choices. I may have looked really good in those super high platform shoes or those pointy toed stiletto heels, but holy crap did my feet feel like I had bound them and stabbed them with...
promise that began in mid February with the words, “This summer I am definitely going to….” all the while wondering where any number of summer items have escaped to over the winter (“What’s become of the Bocce set?” “There’s only one oar. How can there be only one oar?”).
Downtown Newaygo has always been known for throwing a proper celebration for summer’s onset and this year the... ![]() What’s Going On The Suggestion Box Ok we know everyone is gearing up for the first of the Really Big Weekends of our warm weather season. (Spoilers to follow…but really the movie is older than my parents, you have had plenty of time to see it.) He loved it from the very beginning and I could tell he was really feeling it when Old Yeller got into the fight with the coyote. He was so upset when the dumb little brother tries to get into the shed where Old Yeller was being kept, my son started yelling, “NOOO! Don’t go in there! He probably has rabies! This isn’t fair! WHHHHYY!?”. When Travis is forced to put Old Yeller out of his misery, the tears fell from both of our faces and our hearts were broken. Then he was very concerned about our own dog, Bosco, the most adorable, hilarious and awesome Aussiedoodle that has ever existed. He wanted to make sure he had his... |
