![]() Weight Management A New Year’s Resolution? Gerber Memorial Has A ProgramTo Help Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial is launching a comprehensive weight management program, with a free informational session that is open to the public on Tuesday, January 31, at 5:30 p.m. at Possibilities Room No. 3 at Tamarac. Called Optifast, the program combines lifestyle education with medical monitoring and meal replacements. “The Optifast program is a great way for individuals who want to reach their weight and health related goals. Participants get support from a class of people with similar goals and who will hold each other accountable, which can improve the chances for success,” said Ruth Barkel, Gerber Memorial community health program specialist and health coordinator for the Optifast program. “The power of Optifast is... ...bringing the same people together in the same room at the same time, every week, through consistency and collaboration. What’s rewarding about Optifast is seeing people reach their goal weight and commit to short-term and long-term targets.”
Lasting around 24 weeks, Gerber Memorial’s Optifast program kicks off with its first class of the New Year on February 21 at Tamarac. The cost to join the program is $795, and classes run from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. The program includes access to meal replacement products, lifestyle education, expert counseling, medical supervision, weekly support from the health coach, a year of weekly classes covering behavioral, nutrition and physical activity topics, access to a Gerber Memorial registered dietitian and other health improvement activities. Optifast will be medically supervised by Robert Clouse, MD, medical director of Gerber Memorial’s weight management program. Program participants will work with Dr. Clouse to set their goal weight.
