Twin Mandolin Slingers perform at the Dogwood Center on May 13 Award-winning duo Brian Oberlin and Evan J. Marshall, the “Twin Mandolin Slingers,” will perform at the Dogwood Center on Saturday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Black Box. Mandolinists Marshall and Oberlin have been playing concerts together since 2012. Both being a rare breed of solo mandolin performers, each musician plays his own short set and then they team up at the end playing spellbinding arrangements for two mandolins including The William Tell Overture, Sabre Dance, Mantello e Cilindro, and many American folk songs. The duo released... ...their first album together in November 2015 and have toured extensively up and down the West Coast.
Evan J. Marshall is an internationally renowned mandolin virtuoso, and is generally regarded as the world’s premier solo performer on mandolin in duo-style. By himself, he sounds like several of the world’s finest mandolinists performing together. Evan hails from Los Angeles. Brian Oberlin is from Rockford, Michigan and now lives in Portland, Oregon. He travels the world awing audiences with his tasteful arrangements of swing, bluegrass, and original music that swings and stomps. Brian is also an accomplished classical mandolin player. Oberlin also is the founder and director of the River of the West Mandolin Camp and the Oregon Mandolin Orchestra. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Black Box.
