The Suggestion Box: What’s The Buzz The Weekend Of 10-15-16 N3 Entertainment Team There’s some fun on tap for our area this weekend and it starts out Friday night with a little pigskin action in Newaygo. The 84th meeting of the Battle of M-37 is Friday. New Head Coach Darren Geraghty has the Tigers in the hunt for a playoff invite with one win needed to clinch a spot but faces a couple of serious hurdles to get to the coveted 6 win mark and... ... a shot at post-season glory. The first challenge is up the road this Friday when the Lions will host their long-time rivals on homecoming night. The Lions started the season with a brutal schedule but after dropping the first 3 they have righted the ship and won 3 of 4 since. Head Coach Andy Busch who, with his assistants, orchestrated the magical 2012 season that saw the two teams meet in the tournament after a shift in conferences left this game off the schedule for the first time in 70 years. Taking over the reins of the team a week before the season Busch and his team marched through the regular season with but one blemish, a loss to Reed City. They proceeded to avenge that loss in the playoffs but not before taking Grant out of the tournament the week before by a 20-7 score. In 2009 the Tigers had not only begun the season with their 10th straight loss but had not beaten their up the road rivals the previous 4 years. It was the Lakes 8 opener for both schools and when the significant dust cleared Grant pulled off the 19-18 win. And last year Grant prevailed on their home field winning by a 22-6 margin. It’s looking to be another classic and this game has the absolute best that high school football offers. An intense rivalry between neighboring schools, homecoming night, what looks to be a cool and crisp evening and a stadium that will be packed to the gills with fans from both schools, parents, alumni and folks who love well-played hard-nosed high school football. If you attend one game a year, this one is it. See you there. Saturday the Dogwood is bringing in Rumer Willis who has developed an intriguing entertaining and full of surprises performance called the Over The Love Tour. This is a truly gifted young woman who also happens to be the offspring of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, but parentage aside her remarkable vocal abilities, sense of humor, ability to spin stories and the manner with which she commands the stage are the attributes that have drawn crowds to her recent shows in Denver and Minneapolis where she wowed the audiences with a truly compelling pair of performances. Of course at N3 World Headquarters we assume these venues were mere warm-ups for her Dogwood appearance this weekend and her scheduled trips to Boston, New York and Hawaii that follow Saturday’s soiree’ could possibly be a bit anti-climatic after hitting the floorboard in Fremont, but that’s just our opinion. At any rate people, get thee to the Dogwood to not only see this talented young lady in a show theatergoers will be talking about long after she croons her last sultry note, but also to support this wonderful venue of top-level entertainment we are so very blessed to have in our fair climes. And we would surely be remiss if we did not mention that N3 columnist and our favorite denizen of the stand-up comedy world Megan Wirts will be hosting a comedy show at Jimmy’s Roadhouse on Saturday night. So come on Near Northians, it is mid-October at this point and what better way to take your mind off of the fact that December lurks just 6 weeks hence than to get off the couch and grab some local fun.
