The Suggestion Box: What’s Happening Where By N3 Entertainment Squad "Summertime, and the livin' is easy Fish are jumping and the corn's getting high....." Right I know it's cotton not corn but hey, this is the Mitten not the deep south so..... Lots happening in the Near North and here are a few highlights: Friday night Bob Milne brings his Boogie Woogie Ragtime music to the Dogwood Center and if you are a music lover of this or any musical genre and have not been to his previous stops in our area make it a point to catch his show on the Main Stage. Milne is captivating as he not only deftly captures the music of those times, he punctuates the lively toe tapping tunes with snappy dialogue and a wealth of information about the origins of this oh so American music. The shows at 7:30pm and tickets are $15 and $5 for 18 and under. This is the latest in a dynamic series of musical performances at the Dogwood that will be continuing in July when... ...The Rough and Tumble duo arrive with their unique and fetching sound.
Goodbye Elizabeth Halsey! You’ll be missed! Yes the funky fashion venue that brought a little eclecticity to the downtown Newaygo landscape is closing their doors this summer as proprietor Dawn Campbell ends an 11 year run as the go-to place for unique clothing and accessory options. “I am closing one door while opening another,” said Ms. Campbell. “This has been an amazing 11 years and now I’ll be venturing on to new things. Reduce, reuse and reinvent,so stay tuned.” EH will be putting their sea of items on sale through what is as yet an undetermined closing date so if you like to put a little flair in your fashion, pay a visit. The shop is located in back of the library and city offices on Justice St. Want to see some of the most imaginative, creative and downright daring flying stunts performed? Well, then come to the White Cloud Tail Twisters Club’s annual Fun Fly and Pig Roast at the White Cloud airport Saturday. This is a great family fun event and admission is free. These radio operated flying machine aficionados will amaze you with what they can do with their planes and there will be a candy drop during the event. The Friends of the WC Library will have food on sale and the WC Rotary will be offering drinks so grab a couple of lawn chairs (and some sunscreen) and bring the fam up to the Cloud. Since moving her home from California to our area Sasha Evans has become a favorite among locals as well as our part time residents and those who have been fortunate enough to catch one of her shows while passing through. Her smooth and silky vocals make for a musical feast and Saturday at the River Stop Cafe in downtown Newaygo she will be teaming up with her niece Grace Freeman an L.A. based singer from 6-9pm. Bonus alert! Weather permitting the duo will be performing outside on the cafe’s patio area. Cool show. Nice setting. Great food and drinks. Need we say more? We’re convinced given the early results that Summer in River Country is brewing up to be a classic run of good times and in meteorological reality summer in its official capacity has not yet begun with an ETA of sometime Wednesday. So this is just kind of like Spring Training we figure. Comments are closed.
