Fun that awaits those of us lucky enough to call our area home as well as the wide array of visitors and part time residents who share our passion for the Near North. It's Trout Season! As any angler knows Saturday kicks off the quest for the elusive trout as well as the wandering walleye, the petulant pike and the much maligned muskie, with the last three restricted to areas below the bridge. Get out the poles grab some bait and do not forget to purchase your fishing license if you don’t already have it. Need some supplies or perhaps advice? Check out the folks at Muskegon River Fly Shop. It’s what they do. BREWAYGO! Yes, 2 years have passed since the Looman’s brought not only their fine and ever evolving selection of brews to town, but also created a community gathering spot. Their beautiful trails come alive with the presence of finely crafted dwellings belonging to the tiny beings who inhabit the forest. “The faeries of Camp Newaygo are awake and ready to enchant the forest this spring. Walk our trails to find the hidden homes that are perfectly suited for the gnomes and faeries that exist all around us” Create your own faerie wand or gnome hat enjoy a cup of tea or punch and perhaps a faerie cookie. Cost is $7 per person or $25 for a family of four.No reservations are necessary Also, on Saturday from 10am-noon you can do a Make and Take Fairy Garden under the guidance of artist Sally Sovinski. It’s Astronomy Day Saturday and our local star gazing group will be hosting an all day event at the Kropscott Farm Environmental Center/SF Wessling Observatory, 6523 W Baseline Rd, Fremont starting at 2pm, Wagon rides, space related videos, planetarium presentations, drone demonstrations, a special presentation by Laura Hartman (WZZM Meteorologist), a BBQ chicken sandwich ($2) and finally, a star party at the SF Wessling Observatory are all on the docket and the price of admission is…. Free Want to stretch out the legs a bit for a good cause? The Newaygo County Autism Community is holding a Walk For Autism a one mile walk beginning at 930am Saturday at the Fremont High School football field. It’s a chance to show support toward those with autism while raising awareness and acceptance. Fish, Beer Faeries, Stars and a walk for a cause. A little something for everyone it seems.
