The Suggestion Box- Weekend Fun In The Near North By N3 Entertainment Ensemble The staff at N3 World Headquarters and Shoe Spotting Seminary is a bit weary from a whirlwind western wander that culminated in a return just hours before putting the keyboard to work on this week’s Suggestion Box. Crossing 6 states and a couple of time zones then backtracking after a week-long visit involving hiking Halloween and hunkering in with the ¾ of our grandchildren who maintain... ...the western front of our family has left us a bit spent.
Nonetheless there is the call of duty that compels us to deliver the goods for the weekend warriors who wait on pins and needles to pluck pertinent perspectives on what lies ahead for those among us who relish a bit of entertainment to go with the R&R these respites from the work week provide. And we have a couple of doozies to deliver. Friday the Dogwood Center brings in Rachel B. who will be transforming the ever-lovable Black Box into a nightclub setting with her soulful sound. This Traverse City native who studied classical voice at Interlochen Academy delivers a dynamite show wherever she goes. A high school friend with whom we have been able to make contact with via the magic of social media reports having caught her performance awhile back and gave it a rave review. Knowing this person to be a patron of the arts and not given to undue praise I would call her recommendation far more trustworthy than those I recently read about a hotel in Sioux City that proved disappointing on our recent journey home. This looks to be another excellent booking by the Dogwood folks and events in the Box are consistently cool because of the alluring atmosphere it provides. Rachel B. is one of those shows folks will be talking about long after she departs so if you want in on the conversation get yourself to the Dogwood tonight! LionHeart Productions has been filling the stage of the Grant Fine Arts Center since late last century and their musicals are legendary among community theater-goers in these parts. This weekend and next they are transporting the magical musical Beauty and the Beast to our Gateway City. Historically speaking as a veteran of many fine shows put on by the reliably talented troupe recruited for these extravaganzas I can confirm that this will be the latest in their series of pleasurable performances to be enjoyed by all ages. And if you’re busy this weekend (like attending Rachel B tonight) you can read the review in our pages that will be crafted by our cannily clever columnist and veteran of the floorboards herself, Megan (Again) Wirts. And so it is now November and any pretense that the weather gods will continue to bless us with the remarkable weather we’ve had (but for that brief glimpse of snow last week) is bound to wither away like the leaves on the trees that keep falling and falling and falling and……. now where did I put that rake? Regardless, we of the Near North are a hardy folk and a bit of a turn in meteorological mood will do little to wither our enthusiasm for fun and festivities. Besides the holiday season looms and these pages are sure to be filled with opportunities for some serious frolicking in the near future. So stay tuned friends, neighbors, and all in between. We’ll be keeping you posted. Comments are closed.
