The Suggestion Box- Near North Weekend Happenings N3 Entertainment Team While there’s a lot of fun stuff going down around here this weekend several of us at N3 World Headquarters and Kindred Keepers will be re-uning with extended family members this weekend. The usual suspects include the editor’s much older siblings, their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren along with... ...assorted in-laws, outlaws, people who wander in mistakenly and decide to stay and the occasional person claiming to be a long lost relative who doesn’t bring a dish to pass and leaves right after dinner.
Hereabouts you could have gotten your weekend started Friday night with a great concert at the Dogwood’s Black Box where Crystal Bowersox will be bringing her impressive vocals to an appreciative crowd. But, alas all you procrastinating peeps, the concert is sold out. The Dogwood brings in some very cool stuff and the word exceptional is often employed when speaking to the performances that occur there so if you’re looking for some top level entertainment check out the upcoming schedule. Occidental Gypsy will make Django Reinhardt fans out of all newcomers to their unique sound, Tiffany will bring much more than “I Think We’re Alone Now” to the stage with material from an album released this past spring and the oriental drum group Raion Taiko will simply blow you away when they take hold of the main stage. These are a few of the upcoming attractions but don’t wait too long if you’re wanting to take in top level entertainment at easy on the pocketbook prices. After all he who hesitates…… Ok, no Crystal but hey music lovers there’s some serious talent taking to the deck at the Driftwood when Tetrad makes a return visit on Saturday (5-9pm) and Sunday (3-7pm). High energy and hard driving tunes blasting over the pond will be on the menu along with the Driftwood’s bodacious burgers and other tasty items. If you miss them look for Tetrad to appear at the Riverstop Saloon in Newaygo later this month. White Cloud’s Purple Heart Pow Wow continues to grow and provide the community with 2 days of ceremonial dancing and drumming and to celebrate the Native heritage as well as honoring the sacrifices made by our military members. Gene Reid has done an artful job organizing this event and has created a great family- friendly atmosphere for attendees. If you have never attended, make sure to spend an afternoon at the site just west of White Cloud. If you have gone before ignore this because you’re most likely already planning to attend. The Pow-Wow will be going on Saturday and Sunday and you can call 231.689.0344 for more info. Talk to almost any 4-h youth about the Newaygo County Fair and they will tell you it is simply the highlight of their year. Same for some older folks I imagine. The fair begins Saturday and Marianne Boerigter’s article in this section gives you a bit of a synopsis on what’s happening and we hope to bring you some highlights as Fair Week progresses. Those are the highlights for this weekend so get out there and do some serious reveling Near Northians. After all we’re just 4 short weekends from Labor Day. Comments are closed.
