The Suggestion Box By N3 Entertainment Team Ash Wednesday has come and gone leaving the Lenten season in its wake. And Lent means the proliferation of a food related movement that will be making appearances at various venues throughout our area. We’re talking, of course, about that long held tradition of meatless munching known as the Friday Fish Fry’s. Twenty years ago when N3 World Headquarters was located in the city to the south (Grand Rapids, not Casnovia) it was difficult to fall down without hitting a fish fry emporium during the pre-Easter season. There were... ...connoisseurs of this culinary curiosity who could opine with authority over where to find the best of these breaded beauties. In these parts the FFF’s are more than a meal, they’re social events bringing together families, friends and folks we know for some seasonal suppering. We have many local eateries that offer up Friday finned feasts all year but to truly capture the flavor of a Lenten FF try hitting up one of the local Catholic churches. Our sources have informed us that these will be taking place at both St Bart’s in Newaygo and All Saints in Fremont. They usually start around 5pm. The girls basketball districts are over after Friday night and hopefully we will have one of our teams moving on to the Regionals. Monday the Class B Districts for boys will begin at Fremont High School when the Grant Tigers and host Packers will do battle to see which team will advance to play Sparta on Wednesday. These are two very good teams and should provide some top level entertainment for hoop fans. Want to get in the mood? Watch 'Hoosiers' before you go- the consummate movie about high school basketball. On Wednesday the Newaygo County Career Tech Center Job Fair will be introducing the 12th and 13th year students in their trades programs to prospective employers. With employers from throughout the region looking for skilled workers to fill positions this initiative seems like a good marriage between those who educate and those who hire. Love your lungs? Of course you do and on Thursday the Spectrum Gerber Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies folks will be hosting a free event at Tamarac focused on keeping these breathing machines that reside in our chests healthy and what kind of activities impair their wellbeing. The event will run from 6:30pm- 7:30pm and space is limited so to register, call 231.924.3073. Farther afoot? It’s Butterfly Time at Frederick Meijer Gardens and if every year this delightful experience has eluded you, here’s your notification. Butterflies Are Blooming will be there until April 30 but do not tarry. Remember the other years you promised yourself to go then found yourself out of luck when May arrived? You’ve been duly warned. There you go Near Northians. Food, fun, good health and a little nature tossed in as well. And do not forget the LionHeart production of Lion, Witch and Wardrobe is coming to the Dogwood next weekend so better grab your tickets while they last. Comments are closed.
