We’re turning the corner my bipeninsular friends we are indeed turning the corner. Next weekend is March and that means winter is on a truly downward slope with it’s much kinder sister Spring waiting in the wings. In the meantime it is time to get ourselves moving about a bit more. There are still plenty of outside activities (see Charles Chandler’s recent hiking piece https://www.nearnorthnow.com/living-well/winter-hiking-in-newaygo-county) for those who enjoy the wonder of the winter season but if you’re prone to some indoor fun here are a few suggestions. Stage Door Theater in the Cloud is offering up their latest production thi s weekend and next. This is a bit of info on the latest show they provided.: “A Vampire Reflects” Bitingly Funny Stage Door Players have sunk their teeth into a biting farce featuring a vampire, a damsel (but not in distress), a mad Nazi doctor, bat bombs, a housekeeper who doesn’t keep house, a colonel and his wife (both of whom are easily charmed), and a well-intentioned lieutenant—make that major. Will Count Zescu turn any or all into the “living dead”? When he is in the form of a wolf, will he succumb to the charms of the labrador retriever down the lane? Do vampires suffer from fleas? These and many more questions will be answered as the cast present the hijinks reminiscent of Carol Burnett, Benny Hill, and Mel Brooks. The nuttiness will include Jack Millard as Count Zescu, Mara Johnson as Mattie, Melissa Crofoot as Joyce Lyonhart, Nick Empie as Colonel Puddlepont, Tiffany Chase as Mrs. Puddlepont, Denise Gray as Dr. Wolfbane Gunter, and Jaymee Powell as Lieutenant Crisis—later to become a Major Crisis. The director—also known as the asylum keeper—is Ted Mitchell, who has been acting and directing since dirt was invented. The play opens Friday February 22nd and runs February 23rd and March 1st and 2nd as well. 7pm curtain. Tickets:are $12.00 general admission $10.00 Senior Student and $25.00 Family Price. Friday night the River Stop Saloon is bringing in Mojo/Mustang to fire off some 80’s classic rock. Starts at 8pm The Newaygo Brewery is hosting a series of events on Thursdays and Saturdays and this Saturday afternoon brings the return of Jack Leaver who will take to the mike from Noon to 4pm. Leaver is an outstanding entertainer who does not disappoint and there are few finer ways to spend a Saturday afternoon than to listen the live music in a really cool setting while perhaps enjoying an adult beverage or two and some of the finest pizza in town. More info at: http://newaygobrewing.com/events/ Plans have you over by the lakeshore Saturday? Well, Delilah DeWylde is at Fetch Brewing in Whitehall and DD is truly one of the best shows around. Her trips to the Dogwood’s Black Box have been nothing short of memorable and it is always a good time with Ms. DeWylde is in the house. Lots of tunes and a bit of comedic theater as well, so get out there and grab some fun. Because as Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen once said so succinctly... “There ‘s a whole lotta things that I ain’t never done But I ain’t never had too much fun”
