Runway On The Rapids To Benefit MS Program By Mollie Jo Swendrowski “High fashion” are not generally words associated with West Michigan. Not that we aren’t stylish people, however it’s safe to say that most people would connect high fashion with places like New York City and Paris. Every spring for the past five years there has been a high fashion show that takes place in Grand Rapids to benefit a wonderful cause: the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Program at Mercy Health Hauenstein Neurosciences. The event started when current patient and former hairdresser in the MS program at Mercy Health, Kim VanOeffelen, wanted to... ...hold a benefit to raise awareness and funds for the program that is changing her life. She partnered with another former stylist, Alyssa Locke, and the rest is history.
What makes this event even more special is the link to our community. This will be the fourth year that Dawn Campbell, owner of Elizabeth Halsey boutique in downtown Newaygo, will be participating in the show. “I got involved when they [the show’s coordinator’s] asked me, and I believe in trying to find a cure for this horrible affliction,” Campbell said. “I have a dear friend suffering from MS, and a lot of people need this hope.” “My favorite part is watching these women, some shy, some not, vamp that runway,” Campbell elaborated. “Very few are professionals, but you wouldn’t know it.” In addition to Elizabeth Halsey, you will see fashion from DENYM, Lee&Birch, the Shoppe at Saint Mary’s, and Designer Siss Viss. Hair and make-up is provided by 15 East Salon, Bang Blowdry Bar and Salon, Chasing Vanity Salon and Spa, and Hanna Wagner Design. Campbell added, ““I am so proud I get a little teary eyed. I love the glam and joy of this event.” This year’s event takes place this Friday, April 21 at the J.W. Marriott in downtown Grand Rapids. The doors open at 7:00 pm, with the fashion show beginning at 8:30 pm. There will be an after party on the dance floor when the show concludes with music by DJ AB, Adrian Butler. You can purchase tickets in advance online at https://www.doranfoundation.org/runway2017 for $40, or $45 at the door. Also available online is the option for sponsorships, which include a table for a designated number of guests, prominent logo display, and other perks. Comments are closed.
