Review: Rumer Willis At The Dogwood By Ken DeLaat Photos by Tracy Streichirsch It was yet another magical night at the Dogwood Center recently when Rumer Willis brought her “Over the Love’ tour to the Main Stage. Backed by a talented trio and occasional vocal accompaniment she crooned her way through a collection of classics mingled with a cache of covers and the occasional original all of which combined to produce a most pleasurable performance. Perhaps always being identified as a Dancing with the Stars Champion and the eldest daughter of one of... ...Hollywood’s former Dynamic Duos, Ms. Willis transcends these recognitions as soon as she begins to put her substantial vocal talents on display. From the sultry version she spun on one of Cher’s earlier and more obscure numbers (‘Bang, Bang’) to a deep reaching toss-out of the timeless torch song ‘Since I Fell For You’ Ms. Willis answered the call creating a personalized rendering of each selection in her show while blending in a few anecdotal tales and commentary, mostly centered on the theme of love. When Rumer Willis walked onto the stage with a flaming red dress and a welcoming smile she took hold of her audience. When she twice stepped out for a number or two the other gentlemen on stage performed admirably and were well received however the crowd seemed awash in anticipation of Ms. Willis’ return, a suspicion confirmed by the level of applause that inevitably welcomed her back. Kudos to the Dogwood for providing another evening of top level entertainment and a significant shout-out to Ms. Willis who patiently remained long after the show was over to pose for selfies and sign autographs an act that endeared her to what looks to be an ever-growing fan base.
