Kropscott Farm Emvironmental Center to host Volunteer Open House
Would you like to help middle school students explore and engage with the great outdoors? Get kids outside in fresh air, develop a love of nature and feel connected to the natural world? If so, you are invited to a: VOLUNTEER OPEN HOUSE PLEASE JOIN US TUESDAY AUGUST 15th 6:30 - 8:00 PM We are located north of Fremont at 6523 W Baseline Rd. Our programming is only possible with the help of volunteers and we’d welcome the opportunity to share our facility and vision with you! In the summer of 1996, Earle and Mildred Kropscott of Fremont donated 80 acres of land, which included a farmhouse, historic barn and a 40 acre forest, to the Newaygo Conservation District. The Kropscott's wishes for this property are that it be used for educational and agricultural purposes, and scientific studies pertaining to the environment and our natural resources. Who are we looking for? We welcome and need many diverse skills at Kropscott! teaching building maintenance mechanical work grounds maintenance trail building and maintenance program and event planning marketing & visual arts What do we do? Do science experiments with kids to learn about water quality, soil health, dissect owl pellets and identify macroinvertebrates. Play environmental games to learn about predators & prey relationships, bird migration, and the water cycle. Care for the pollinator gardens, identify wildflowers and plants. Make art projects with things you find in nature such as twigs, leaves, flowers & rocks. Take kids on nature walks in the woods and go on scavenger hunts.
