![]() Megan Again:A Little Hallmark Hallelujah For The Season By Megan Wirts We all have that one thing that we love, but we sometimes feel a little bit embarrassed to share with people. Things that are deemed “not cool” by the masses. It can be your secret love of the Spice Girls or your true obsession with cross stitching pictures of kittens on pillows. No one is immune to it and I think if we shared these things with others we might find more kindred spirits than we may have realized were out there. My thing, that I’m shamelessly not embarrassed about and am proud to share with the world, is something that... ...I have found comfort in during some of my most difficult days. My thing, is Hallmark Christmas Movies, and I am sure I am not alone in my obsession with these completely unrealistic magical fairy tales. It isn’t even just the Christmas movies honestly, my love of those cheesy, cringe worthy stories of love and romance extends throughout the entire year. Give me a corny summer love story or Valentine’s Day saga and I am watching it.
You may be wondering how I came to be a Hallmark Christmas Movie fanatic. Well, it all began in 2012 when I had my first brain surgery and I was mostly lying in bed from October-December. As I lay in bed recovering, I found myself drawn to these enchanting stories. I would watch movie after movie of a single mother or ambitious business woman (whose boyfriend just broke up with her) moving or visiting a whimsical small town with an adorable name like Ginger Snap Canyon or Hollyville. She would then meet the town’s most eligible bachelor (that was once a big city lawyer or business man and is now the town handyman or toy store owner). Then they would fall in love and get married under the mistletoe. Not without some twists and turns along the way though. There is usually a terrible tragedy to overcome, some misunderstanding for them to work through, or worse yet, one of them may have lost their Christmas spirit! Then, of course, there is Santa Claus or a Christmas Angel helping to make sure all goes according to plan! Not to mention they do it all while having perfect hair and makeup 24/7 and wearing heels the entire time! What is not to love?! Romance, magic, fluffy snow and mistletoe!!!!! These movies are like glitter and love all wrapped up in a big shiny red bow! Hallmark-a-llejuah!! In the years following, I found myself yet again in bed recovering from some kind of surgery during the months of November and December. What else was I to do, but watch my beloved movies. I would spend my days sipping coffee and yelling at the television because the characters were just making the wrong choices in my opinion! “Get it together John!”, I would yell at my television while folding laundry. “This one has got to be the cheesiest one yet. It’s just awful...I love it!”, I would say with a big smile on my face. Everyone ends up happy and filled with sparkling Christmas joy in the magical world that is a Hallmark Christmas Movie. It is literally the best place on Earth and beyond, and I love getting sucked right into it. It’s the perfect escape. Now, nearly every night from November 1 until the week after Christmas you will find me snuggled up under a blanket with a glass or wine or cup of coffee (the two things that give me life) in hand, entranced by one of these charming tales. I know how mushy gushy and sugary sweet these cinematic masterpieces are, (my husband and children never forget to tell me) but I just can’t help myself!! They must not be that bad though, because just the other night I caught my youngest small person watching one and overheard him say, “Seriously lady, of course he is Santa Claus, just marry the guy already!”. I couldn’t have been prouder. Comments are closed.
