Fremont Area Chamber Annual Dinner Story and photos by Marianne Boerigter The Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce held its 102nd annual dinner on Tuesday, March 21 at the Dogwood Center, with Brew Works of Fremont catering the event. During this special evening, the Chamber of Commerce recognized community members for their dedication over the past year to the Chamber and Newaygo County, as well as acknowledging individuals for their efforts in strengthening the Fremont area. The Chamber of Commerce presented awards to the following businesses and individuals: ... ...Community Action Award to Rebel Smith; Dorcas Mortland Award to Todd Blake; Chamber Honor Roll recipients Geers Family Chiropractic, American Truck Accessories and Habitat for Humanity Newaygo County; Entrepreneur Recognition Award to Ellen Gibbie of Northpointe Gymnastics; Volunteer of the Year to Pam Schwallier; and special recognition to outgoing board member Jesse Wolfsen of Reeman Farm Equipment for his service. With guest speaker Carla Roberts, President and CEO of the Fremont Area Community Foundation, the attendees participated in an interactive discussion about quality of life and economic indicators for Newaygo County and surrounding area. Roberts, sharing information from the Foundation’s 2016 community needs assessment, facilitated discussion about what is good and what is challenging today in the area, and what we want to work on to make a better future for our people, economy and place.
