Dam to Dam Benefits TrueNorth’s TrueMentors Program NEWAYGO COUNTY, MI – Locally, TrueNorth has understood the importance of mentoring and has offered youth mentoring programs since 1976. Today, their TrueMentors program matches children with adult mentors in one-on-one connections that prove sometimes; all a kid needs is one more caring adult in their life to make a lasting, positive difference. Currently, there are15 children waiting to be matched with their mentors, and the annual Dam to Dam Ice Fishing Tournament is just about the easiest and most fun way to help make that happen. Sponsored by Leinenkugel, WLAV, and Croton Bay Trading Post, this annual tournament, this year happening on February 18, is... ...always a local favorite. Registration is only $5 per adult, and children 13 and under are free with a registered adult.
All proceeds from the tournament will help TrueMentors staff recruit, train and match adult mentors with local youth. While the tournament takes place during the free fishing weekend, which means no license is required, all equipment and fish must be in regulation. Things get underway on Saturday, the 18th with a breakfast and Bloody Mary bar at the Driftwood Bar and Grill, beginning at 7:00 AM, fishing starts at sun-up, with the National Anthem at 8:00 AM. Music on the ice will be sponsored by Gene’s Market, camping will be available at the Crofton Township Campground where the Leinenkugel Lodge will also be located. Reservations for camping are required and may be obtained by calling 652-4301. Ice Golf will also be happening with details and early registration available at the Croton Bay Trading Post. Golfers may also register on February 18 at the tee-off location on Pine Street across from the campground. Prizes are awarded for largest catch, and various raffle prizes will be available to win, including a portable camping grill. “We’re really excited about this event, which I hear is going to be a ton of fun, especially now that it looks like we’ll actually have ice,” said Haley Hepfer, the new TrueMentors Program Director at TrueNorth. The deadline to register for the Ice Fishing Tournament is 10:00 AM, on February 18. For more information, contact Hepfer at TrueNorth at [email protected] or 924-0641, ext. 109 or stop by the Croton Bay Trading Post. Comments are closed.
