Arts & Crafts Festival Begins Friday In Newaygo By N3 Entertainment Team We are down to the final day before the first of that trio of remarkable three day respites from the real world arrives to welcome in the summer season in the Mitten. And while we at N3 World Headquarters and Pontoon Palace are in no hurry to rush away these wonderful spring days it bears to keep in mind that some serious celebration is on tap for the next 3 months or so. Granted we reside in a 4 season paradise with enough variety of meteorological mayhem to maintain interest among even the most discriminating of weather watchers. What’s more, contained within the dramatic shift of climatic conditions is the way our citizens... ...embrace the summer months like welcoming the return of an old and very dear friend.. A passion unrivaled by states who shudder at the thought of spending a winter up here.
We deserve to kick it up a notch or two during the summer months. We’ve earned it for pity’s sake. And this weekend it begins. A big part of Memorial Day Weekend in Newaygo means Brooks Park filled with vendors plying their wares at the River Country Chamber of Commerce Arts & Crafts Festival and sharing grounds with the ever-popular children’s carnival as well as a flurry of food vendors eager to serve up the kind of eats we associate with such happenings . Take for example elephant ears. Perhaps not an item on the menu at home and not likely to be found on the dessert cart of most restaurants but there’s just something about that warm toasted cinnamon sprinkled marvel wrapped in paper that fits well with the atmosphere. Dietary digression aside, the action starts to pick up steam Thursday night when you begin to see a little activity going on in the park. Vendors checking out their sites and getting ready to roll out their set-ups. Gearing up to greet the crowds that will be descending onto the scene even before the official opening at 11am. Friday, Saturday and Sunday the park will be buzzing with activity and downtown merchants will be displaying their goods outside as the annual sidewalk sales give shoppers an opportunity for some bargain buys. The Kids Carnival will be drawing the 12 and under crowd for rides and activities and some serious browsing will be on the docket as a wide variety of interesting, intriguing, and ‘gotta have it’ items will be offered throughout the park. The folks from Newaygo County Prevention of Child Abuse will be hosting their first Super Hero 5k Run and 1 Mile Fun Run Saturday morning with proceeds going to benefit the organization. The event features prizes for the best costume as well as raffle prizes so get some hero garb together and get ready to kick it up a bit. The race which will begin at Newaygo High School starts at 9:00 with registration from 7:45-8:45. You can find the registration form on their website www.newaygocountyprevention.org or you can visit runsignup.com to pre-register. There will be activities for kids prior to the race including face painting, sign making and tattooing (the temporary variety we assume). The Annual Arts and Crafts Festival is the Chamber’s way of welcoming both the warm weather months ahead and the throngs of visitors who find summertime in Newaygo to their liking. Come join the fun.
