![]() A Few Minutes With,,,, Rumer Willis Actor/ Entertainer Bringing Show To The Dogwood Rumer Willis might have entered the living rooms of millions during her triumphant run on Dancing with the Stars or any number of other TV shows she has appeared on, and others may be acquainted with her from her roles on the Big Screen. If you’re the kind of theater buff that books a week in New York to drink in a series of Broadway performances you might be more acquainted with Rumer from the way she captured the role of Roxie in Chicago last fall. But if you’re a fan of cabaret style singing, the capable crooning of a fiery torch song or listening to a well performed cover of an old favorite given a clever twist or two we’ve got a treat for you next week. On Saturday October 15th patrons of the Dogwood will get to... ...see this multi talented performer up close and personal as Rumer Willis brings her ‘Over The Love’ tour to Fremont for what promises to be an engaging evening of songs and stories with an emphasis on fun. N3 was able to interview Ms. Willis by phone in her Los Angeles home as she prepared to depart on a multi city expedition that will take her to Denver and Minneapolis before her arrival in Fremont and Boston and New York after her departure. N3- What performers most influence your style of singing? RW- Billie Holiday Etta James, Patsy Cline are all faves. I always listened to them when I was younger and love the way they communicate their music. N3- You’ve performed on television the movies, the stage, which of these draws you the most. RW- I really like being on stage where the audience is part of it and you work toward having this relationship with the audience. It feels more personal and interactive. N3- You went to Interlochen Arts Academy here in Michigan as a young girl correct? RW- I did! N3 Why Interlochen? RW- I went there because I really wanted that sense of being in a community of artists and people who were all pursuing creative paths. It seemed like a cool place when I heard about it and it turned out to be a very cool place. The school was great and the experience was wonderful. N3- How long were you there? RW- I spent two years….. The first year I studied opera and the second I studied theater. N3- What would you be doing if not in the entertainment field? RW- Well, when I was a kid I wanted to either be a criminal lawyer or a doctor. N3- Well, that seems pretty in line with what you’re doing now. RW- (laughs) Yeah pretty much the same thing. N3- What drives you? What’s your passion? RW -I really like making people laugh and smile. To connect with people in the audience and give them a chance to feel good. To enjoy themselves and come away a little lighter. N3- What is life like when you’re not touring? What do you do for fun? RW- Actually I’m a big homebody. I like to cook and host dinner parties with friends. I enjoy hiking with my dogs a lot. N3- What kind of dogs? RW-I have two Chihuahuas, two Chihuahua/ wiener dogs and a shepherd mix. N3- How’s the shepherd get along with the others? RW- She’s’ great. She thinks she’s a little dog so she does fine with them. N3- What should people coming to the show expect? RW- I think they should come out and expect to have fun. A good time. I’ll be singing some familiar songs, sharing some funny stories and just getting to know the audience and communicate with them. What Kind of shows do the people in Fremont like? N3- Well I think the tastes run pretty eclectic around here. The Dogwood brings in a wide variety and they’re pretty much all well received. RW- Good. I look forward to it. N3- And I understand you’ll be available after the show to sign autographs and meet people. RW- Oh yes. I definitely want to be on hand afterwards for signing and selfies If you’re unfamiliar with the singing talent of Ms. Willis and undecided about coming to the show I encourage you to check out some of her offerings on YouTube. The lady has an impressive set of pipes, and seems to be able to emotionally embrace the songs she performs. And her duet with Darryl Hall in a stirring rendition of ‘Sara Smile’? Real close to perfect. Comments are closed.
