The weekend starts Thursday By Ken DeLaat “Without music, life would be a mistake.”- Friedrich Nietzsche From time to time I find myself missing some aspects of living in the city. Being a bit of a foodie the array of offerings in the metro area when it comes to gastronomy are abundant. Grand Rapids tends to be a most accommodating place to dine out on any given night and with any desired cuisine. And then there’s the music. Live music. Nothing fits the bill like live music in a cozy setting. This weekend our slice of bi-peninsula paradise is offering up some righteous tuneage in the 3 days leading up to Easter. Thursdays at the River Stop Cafe in downtown Newaygo have become synonymous with some seriously good listening. They’ve been bringing in performers from throughout the region and this week you can catch Gina & Jordan from 6:30-9:30pm. The duo were in town at the Cafe a couple of months ago and we heard they sent the crowd home happy after a stellar performance. Oh and if you give them a listen and find you wish to hear more of this talented twosome you can catch them at Crankers and the Sawmill up in BR later this month. And while catching their act at the R-Stop check out the suds selections they have on tap. Friday’s at Flying Bear Books also in downtown Newaygo is Open Mike night from 6:30-8pm where local musicians take to the stage and deliver their personal style of tunesmanship. This Friday however, beginning at 8pm the bookstore/creperie will also host the worldwide debut of Sleep Hotline beginning at 8pm. We don’t know much about them other than Brewmaster extraordinaire Nick Looman is part of the group. We contacted them for some details and will post their response when it comes in.
So that brings us to Saturday and if you’re still haven’t had your live music itch scratched You can head to the Driftwood to hear Forged in Blue belt out some classic rock, country and blues at the iconic Croton venue where summertime means jams on the deck. Rock On Near Northians
