The Suggestion Box: Welcome April By N3 Entertainment Team This has been a less than lovely March. After a bit of a warmer than usual February March seemed to hold such promise yet it turned out to be a tad cooler than some of us would like as well as a touch cloudier. Actually it seemed cloudy enough to not only stoke the sales of Vitamin D but also tickle that piece of seasonal affective disorder that tends to emerge in many folks when Spring is unduly delayed. There’s always a bit of crabbiness in the air during a stalled Spring. That teaser or two of a nice day tossed out indiscriminately provides momentary relief to be sure, however they also make enduring a return... ...to those more-than-a-bit-chilly days when one is once again forced to layer up and scrape some windows in the early morning a bit more unbearable. After a questionable weather week the next two days are looking to be mighty inviting, thus our Suggestion Box focus is Get Thee Outside! Let’s assume one of those promises made to yourself in the depths of winter, when the possibility of being outdoors and unlayered seemed as remote as the moon, was to take advantage of the wonderfully scenic trails we are surrounded by here in these parts. Or perhaps to finally take the bicycle down from the garage wall and do a bit of pedaling. Any number of ways to embrace the great outdoors might have been considered. Likely the inner conversation went something like this: “I know, in previous years I might have spent the majority of my outdoor time sitting in a lawn chair with a cold beverage occasionally assessing the readiness of the coals, but this coming year will be different. I’m going to start hiking and biking and get out there and commune a bit more with nature because I’ve missed it so much and this year I'm dead serious.” As Joni Mitchell put so succinctly in Big Yellow Taxi: “Don’t it always seem to go… “That you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone?” Alas, it’s usually like anything else, once that spate of nice weather arrives we are quick to take for granted its ongoing presence and those mid-winter vows melt away with the snow. But this is a great time to get some traction on those promises to partake in a little more outdoor recreation this year. This weekend according to the Accu-Weather forecast found at the bottom of our home page (shameless self-promotion segment) we are to be well into the 50’s both days with mostly, yes I said mostly, sunny days. Take a walk, go for a bike ride, get out a kayak or canoe (but stay dry), hike one of our wonderful trails, take in a round of golf or Frisbee golf if you’ve a notion to. Maybe go for a drive to the beach and remember what Lake Michigan is supposed to look like. Whatever you do, do it outside because this, my friends, is what we have been waiting for. A time to get in shape for the heavy duty frolicking that will commence once the warm weather hits town. Then once evening rolls around and everyone is feeling pretty good about getting a hold of some fresh air and in the process worked up a major appetite but are now too tired to think about dinner..... Take advantage of the fine eateries we have around us and celebrate the coming of April. This one-two punch of some outside time and dining on food you haven’t had to prepare or clean up after is just the cure for the “when-will-it-ever-be-spring” blues. No fooling. Comments are closed.
