Mother’s Day Musings By Ken DeLaat Mother’s Day A Day to honor Moms everywhere. Moms who came to their kids by way of birthing them, Moms who chose kids to bring into their homes and Moms who were thrust into the role through any number of circumstances and stepped up without a second thought.to fill that role. Those who truly deserve the title of Mom because they recognized that the word is a verb not a noun. An action not a mere title. Because as Michael Levine once said, ““Having children makes you no more a parent than having a piano makes you a pianist.” It’s a thing. A skill. A commitment that comes with... ...one of those ‘Like it or not I’ll be your best friend even, and perhaps especially, through the times you want nothing to do with me or my guidance’ types of perseverance. Motherhood’s a marathon not a dash. Mom’s are in it for the haul.
Because when you’re a Mom you realize you’re not raising children, you’re raising adults. Helping your youngsters become the people they are supposed to be. And so today we offer a selection of quotes about Mothers and Motherhood as a way of honoring those who serve in the most honored capacity of all. “Being a mother is an attitude, not a biological relation.-Robert Heinlein “But kids don't stay with you if you do it right. It's the one job where, the better you are, the more surely you won't be needed in the long run.”- Barbara Kingsolver “Mother's love is peace. It need not be acquired, it need not be deserved.”-Erich Fromm “The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness.” - Honore De Balzac “My mother had a great deal of trouble with me, but I think she enjoyed it.” - Mark Twain “It is not until you become a mother that your judgment slowly turns to compassion and understanding.”- Erma Bombeck “I got to grow up with a mother who taught me to believe in me.”- Antonio Villaraigosa “The natural state of motherhood is unselfishness. When you become a mother, you are no longer the center of your own universe. You relinquish that position to your children.”- Jessica Lange “Each child is biologically required to have a mother. Fatherhood is a well-regarded theory, but motherhood is a fact.” -P.J. O’Rourke “When your mother asks, 'Do you want a piece of advice?' it is a mere formality. It doesn't matter if you answer yes or no. You're going to get it anyway”- -Erma Bombeck “Every mother is like Moses. She does not enter the promised land. She prepares a world she will not see..”- Pope Paul VI “All. women become like their mothers, That is their tragedy. No man does. That’s his.”- Oscar Wilde “Being a mother is learning about strengths you didn’t know you had and dealing with ears you didn’t know existed.”- Linda Wooten And a personal favorite….. “Making the decision to have a child - it's momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking outside your body.” Happy Day, Moms. You folks absolutely rock. Comments are closed.
