Mrs. Peggy Ilene Dostie, age 90 of Newaygo, Michigan passed away on Friday afternoon, June 5, 2020 at Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial in Fremont. She was born on July 27, 1929 in Hammond, Indiana to Con & Sarah (Ramsey) Sheridan. Peggy retired from General Electric after 26 years of employment. She enjoyed bowling, horseshoe, fishing, crocheting, and go cart racing. Peggy is survived by her husband of 52 years, Carl Dostie; 3 children: Dennis Weber of Holland, Michigan, April (Rick) Petersen of White Cloud, Michigan, Tina Dostie of Florida; 3 grandchildren: Philip Balmer, Monte (Dorian) Goodyke, Stephanie Neenan; and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Peggy Leigh, and by several brothers & sisters. A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at a later date, and interment will be in Allegan Township, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to the Salvation Army. Kimberly J. Woods, age 45 of Muskegon, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at the Spectrum Health Gerber Health Services in Fremont. Kim was born on May 2, 1975 in Muskegon to Charles M. and Janet L. (Beehler) Dykema and graduated from Fremont High School in 1993. Kim later graduated from Muskegon Community College and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Grand Valley State University. Kim joined the Michigan National Guard and her unit was activated for the Iraq War and was deployed in the United States Army and served until her honorable discharge after 6 years of service. Kim was an educator and started teaching at Godwin Heights Schools in Grand Rapids, later at Muskegon Heights Public Schools and was currently teaching English and History at the Muskegon High School and had been the Varsity Softball Coach at Muskegon High School for several years and was loved by 100’s of her students. Kim married Jason Woods on August 28, 2010 and loved reading, puzzles and playing games and her dog Bailey. Kim is survived by her husband, Jason; her brother, Greg (Amy) Dykema; her sister, Terri (George VandenBosch) Dykema; her aunts, Jolynn Byal and Ruth (Jim) Dagen; her uncles, Stan Dykema and Bill (Rae) Dykema; her nieces, Chelsea (Ethan) Higgs; Brittany (Adam) DeKryger; Kristina (Zac) Hummel; Sarah Dykema; Amanda Dykema; her nephew, Robert Dykema; 2 great nephews, 1 great niece and one great niece or nephew due in a couple of months; his father and mother-in-law, Brian and Linda Surch; many cousins. Sackett, age 65 of Fremont, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Muskegon on Sunday, April 12, 2020. Dale was born on March 15, 1955 in Fremont to Walter and Pauleen (Edbrooke) Plantiko and graduated from Fremont High School in 1973. Dale started work at Gerber Products Company in Fremont immediately after high school and later retired, following downsizing, from the marketing department after 28 years of service but continued to work in the marketing field for many years including several years at Family Health Care for the Teen Health Program. Dale later began work at Sandy’s Harley Davidson’s in Fremont where she worked in sales and marketing for the past 11 years. Dale enjoyed riding and raising horses, listening to music, vegetable and flower gardening and occasionally baking. Dale is survived by her daughters and granddaughters and great grandson, Amanda (Keith) Stamy of Muskegon and her daughters, Kira and Emma; Melissa (Mike) Wilson of Grant and her daughters, Jessalyn and her son, Jace and Chloe; her sister, Barb (Ted) Clark of Fremont; her brother-in-law, Ron Frens of Fremont; many nieces and nephews and her dog, Ella. He was born to Billy and Marjorie (McGahan) Rumsey on May 22, 1941 in Hesperia. He attended Hesperia schools, graduating in 1959. Bill married Karen Lee Wildfong on August 20, 1960. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1963, stationed in Jacksonville, FL serving on the USS Enterprise where he began a lifelong friendship with Fred Smith of Ohio. Bill and Karen lived in Jacksonville until he was honorably discharged and returned to Hesperia to raise their family. Bill lived a life of service to his country, his family, and to his community. He was a member of the Hesperia Lions Club, the Hesperia Free Fair Board, and he served several terms on the Hesperia Village Council. Bill enjoyed serving as scoutmaster for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and coaching many of his sons’ baseball teams. One of his proudest efforts was his 50 years of service as a volunteer on the Hesperia Fire Department, where he filled many leadership positions, including chief. Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years and he was an avid golfer, serving on the first board of directors of Northwood Golf Course. Bill and Karen owned and operated a bait shop in Hesperia and also sold snowmobiles for several years. He worked at Sealed Power in Muskegon for over 30 years, and while on an extended layoff, he joined Karen who worked for State Farm Insurance Agency with their close friends Andy and Billie Patrick. Bill and Karen vacationed during winters in Arizona once they both retired. Bill is survived by his children Billy Jr. (Toni) Rumsey, Scott (Theresa) Rumsey, and Robin (Chris) Hren; grandchildren Lisa (Shawn) Montague, Michael (Melissa) Rumsey, Bryce (Mallary Sattler) Herin, Trent Herin, Claire Rumsey, Isabelle Rumsey, and Zackary Hren; and 9 great-grandchildren: Kayleah, Tyler, Elyse, Aubrey, Sawyer, Delilah, Finley, Graysen, and Jude. Dale was born on December 25, 1979 in Fremont to Anthony Dale and Elizabeth “Betty” Anne (Zerlaut) Workman. Dale graduated from Holton High School in 1999. Dale was a self-employed auto mechanic at King Automotive in Twin Lake and had always enjoyed working on engines and everything automotive. Dale enjoyed riding dirt bikes, fishing, boating, water skiing, socializing with friends, and was well known for his practical joking personality. Dale is survived by his sons, Anthony D. Betty was born on June 17, 1944 in Flint to Harry Warren and Nettie Catherine (Thorp) Schaff and moved to Mt. Pleasant where she graduated from Mount Pleasant High School. Betty worked at Central Michigan University in the library for 8 years and then moved to Montague and started work at Muskegon Community College in the library and clerical work for 15 years until her retirement. Betty enjoyed creating through painting and taught painting classes for 17 years. She was an avid reader and book collector and especially enjoyed cookbooks. Betty enjoyed traveling by Amtrak trains around the country and enjoyed gaming and going to the casinos. Betty is survived by her son, Ron W. (Karen) Swanson of Grand Rapids; her grandchildren, Brian T. Swanson and Jessica C. (fiancé, Jacob Humble) Swanson; long time and special friend, Kathy Robart of Montague; her sisters and brother, Patricia, Susan, Carol Anne, and Jerry; her beloved cats, Trouble and Luna. Dick enjoyed gardening, and coaching rocket football in Hesperia. She was born on August 13, 1941 in Fremont, MI., and was one of several children of Franklin & Edith (Davis) Tinkham. Wilma was raised in Hesperia, MI. and graduated from Hesperia High School in 1960. She was always a caregiver and took care of others when they were sick. She especially enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren, and she enjoyed cooking. Lydia Lou Baron, age 89 of Norton Shores, formerly of Hesperia and Ludington, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2020 at the Dayspring Assisted Living Center “The Cottage” in Norton Shores. Lydia was born on December 28, 1930 in Grosse Pointe, Michigan to Carl Albert and Johanna Anna (Schubert) Liebing and later married John Baron in 1957. John preceded her in death on January 12, 2014. Lydia had been a teacher at the Pere Marquette School in Ludington for several years until her retirement and moved to the Hesperia area after retirement and moved to Norton Shores in 2018. Lydia loved sharing information with others, vegetable and flower gardening, creating with paintings, being in the Michigan outdoors and worked a small wood mill with her husband for several years during their retirement. Lydia was a “tough lady” but always wanted to enrich her children’s lives with learning opportunities. Lydia is survived by her children, Stuart Baron of Hesperia; Scott (Amy) Baron of St. Mary’s, Georgia; Marcia (David) Hansen of Johnston, Iowa; her grandchildren, Thomas (Kari) Baron; Heather (Matt) Weiner; Kiersten Hansen. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; by her brothers, Ed Liebing, Art Liebing, Phil Liebing, and Dick Liebing. Chrispell, age 86 of White Cloud and formerly of Holland, passed away peacefully at his residence, The Brook of Newaygo on May 24, 2020. Max was born on November 13, 1933 in Roscommon County to Henry and Ellen (Davis) Chrispell and later moved to the Holland area. Max was drafted in the United States Army and served in the Army during the Korean War until his honorable discharge. Max had been a tool and die maker at General Electric for many years until his retirement and had also been a resident builder his entire life who always had a hammer in hand ready to build. Max married Shirley Ann VanHouten on December 31, 1992 in Newaygo, Michigan and Shirley preceded him in death on May 21, 2016. Max and Shirley loved fishing all the lakes around White Cloud, traveling to Florida in the winter months, cookouts at the lake house and family gatherings. Both Max and Shirley traveled to Israel and were baptized in the Jordan River and Max was also a member of the White Cloud United Methodist Church. Max is survived by his children, Dan Chrispell of Holland; Melanie Mason of Holland; Teri Lynn Chrispell of Holland; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; his step daughter, Twila (Brett) Krick of Florida; his brother, Everett Chrispell of Ore City, Texas; his sister, Beverly Michels of Hessel, Michigan. Max was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Chrispell and by his brother, Eugene Chrispell. According to Max’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at the White Cloud United Methodist Church in White Cloud later in the summer or fall of 2020 when travel and health issues are lifted.
