![]() Betty Catherine Swanson, age 75 of Montague, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at her home in Montague. Betty was born on June 17, 1944 in Flint to Harry Warren and Nettie Catherine (Thorp) Schaff and moved to Mt. Pleasant where she graduated from Mount Pleasant High School. Betty worked at Central Michigan University in the library for 8 years and then moved to Montague and started work at Muskegon Community College in the library and clerical work for 15 years until her retirement. Betty enjoyed creating through painting and taught painting classes for 17 years. She was an avid reader and book collector and especially enjoyed cookbooks. Betty enjoyed traveling by Amtrak trains around the country and enjoyed gaming and going to the casinos. Betty is survived by her son, Ron W. (Karen) Swanson of Grand Rapids; her grandchildren, Brian T. Swanson and Jessica C. (fiancé, Jacob Humble) Swanson; long time and special friend, Kathy Robart of Montague; her sisters and brother, Patricia, Susan, Carol Anne, and Jerry; her beloved cats, Trouble and Luna. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Swanson; her brothers, Ronnie, Donny and Kenny and by her cat, Maxx. Following her wishes, private celebration of life services will be held later in the fall of 2020 in Rockford following cremation.
