Patricia L. Baldwin, age 73 of Howard City, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2020 at her home following a short illness. Patricia was born on May 2, 1947 in Flint to William George and Rosemary (Ulrich) Bellinger and graduated from Elsie High School. Patricia later married Tony Baldwin on November 27, 1965 in Williamston and Tony preceded her in death on September 27, 2017. Patricia later graduated from Alma College with a Bachelors of Arts Degree and was a poet and author of 2 poetry books. Patricia had been a caregiver and homemaker most of her life and was a member of the Christ The King Catholic Church in Howard City and enjoyed flower gardening, reading, listening to music, art and visiting with her grandchildren. Patricia is survived by her children, Debra (Mark) Laper of Lakeview; Sharon Baldwin of Howard City; Melinda (Bill) Engle of Elmira Michigan; Anthony (Jenna) Baldwin of Clare; Floyd Baldwin of Mt. Marilee Whitman, age 79, of Hesperia passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020, at Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids. Marilee was born on October 1, 1940, in Kenton, Ohio, to Roy Gene and Bernadean A. (Clement) Brown and married Charles Whitman on May 1, 1960, in LaRue, Ohio. Marilee was a beautician by trade but her career was lovingly nurturing and caring for her family. Marilee was an incredible cook, loved knitting, sewing, and gardening. Marilee was an active member of the Fremont United Methodist Church. Marilee was raised on a rural farm in Ohio and was a county girl at heart. She was a sound Christian woman whose life revolved around her loving family. Marilee is survived by her husband, Charles; children, Kathy (Bill) DeBone of Nunica, Leslie (Jim) Welsh of Fremont, Amy (James) Mosser of Ohio, and Charles Robert Whitman of Grand Rapids; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother, Linda Anderson of Ohio, Carol (Jim) Staundenheimer of Ohio, and Dwight (Jane) Brown of Ohio; brother-in-law Fred Markley; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her sister, Phyllis Markley and brother, Max Richard Brown. Private services will be held at a later time. Martha May Taylor, age 84, of Walkerville passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020, at home. Martha was born on August 28, 1935, in Big Prairie Township to Charles and Mary (Stewart) Aisha and married Roy Edward Taylor on May 9, 1960, in Newaygo. Martha had been a LPN at Mercy Hospital in Muskegon and also cooked at the Sportsman’s Restaurant in Newaygo. She enjoyed sewing, crochet, yard sales, and was active in the Newaygo VFW and Camp Trotter. Martha attended the Pine Grove Community Church and her faith was an important part of her life. Martha is survived by her children, Sam (Carol) Taylor of Newaygo, Connie (Dan Bowyer) Sayles of Walkerville, James Taylor of Las Vegas, and Terresa Slater of Vermont; 18 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and sister, Sarah (Jerry) Daul of Fruitport. She was preceded by her husband, Roy; son, Don Taylor; and brothers and sisters, Chris, Walt, Mike, Jake, Dan, Don, Betsy, and Clair. There will be a private interment service at Newaygo Cemetery and a Celebration of Life will be scheduled for later this summer. Miller, age 94 of Fremont, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at the Transitional Health Services in Fremont. Bob was born on September 27, 1925 in Dumont, Iowa to Floyd W. and Tadie Kate (Gronigan) Miller and later married Virginia Mae Harrald on March 2, 1946 in Troy, Kansas. Virginia preceded him in death on July 12, 2007. Bob moved to the Fremont area in 1953 from Dumont, Iowa and worked at Westfield Sommers and at the Gerber Products Company in the cold storage department until his retirement in January 1988 after 35 years. Bob enjoyed traveling to Florida after retirement, taking care of his yard and doing yardwork, had been a hobby farmer all of his life and was a member of the Fremont Moose Lodge #1555. Bob is survived by his daughter, Judy (Sam) Church of Grant; his daughter-in-law, Helen Miller of Venice, Florida; his grandchildren, Angela Jenkins of Punta Gorda, Florida; Christine (Trent) Debrot of Rockford; Amanda (Devren) Beecham of Fremont; his great grandchildren, Stella Debrot; Alicia (Tim) Nieuwkoop; Tyler Burns; Kyle Beecham; Hanna Beecham; and Jayden Beecham; his great great grandson, Landyn Lee Nieuwkoop. Janet L. Dykema, age 76 of Holton, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2020 at the Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial Health Services in Fremont following complications from cancer. Janet was born on June 3, 1943 in Muskegon to Robert Leonard and Martha Jean (Haynes) Beehler. Janet graduated from Muskegon High School and later attended Muskegon Community College. She married Charles M. Dykema on May 22, 1964 in Muskegon and Charles preceded her in death on April 6, 2011. Janet has been a resident of the Holton area since 1975 when she moved from Grand Haven. Janet started working at the Old State Bank in Fremont and later began work at the Gerber Employees Federal Credit Union where she worked in the loan department for over 20 years until her retirement in February 2011. Janet was a member of the Reeman Christian Reformed Church, enjoyed reading, gaming, and mowing her yard and the animals and cats at her house. She always had a vegetable garden and enjoyed canning the vegetables from the garden. She truly treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren. Janet is survived by her children, Greg (Amy) Dykema of Holton; Terri Dykema of Muskegon; Kim (Jason) Woods of Muskegon; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and 1 great grandchild due in a few months; her sister, Jolynn Byal of Fort Wayne, Indiana; 2 nephews. Harold Jay Kolk, 95, of Fremont, Michigan, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday morning, May 24, 2020. Harold was born on October 16, 1924 in St. Louis, Michigan to Albert and Mayme (Meeuwenberg) Kolk, and lived the majority of his life in Newaygo and Fremont, Michigan after graduating from Newaygo High School. After high school Harold served in the U.S. Army in Japan during World War II. After the service Harold helped his father raise fox and later started a gravel company, K-V Gravel Company, and a redi-mix company, Newaygo County Transit Mix. Harold was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church in Fremont for the majority of his life and served on the church council for many years, as well as on the Fremont Christian School Board. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Aletta (Wieringa) Kolk; son Mark Kolk; and sister, Esther Vandenberg. He is survived by his children: Gerald (Maryellen) Kolk, Randall (Michael Cresa) Kolk; and daughter-in-law, Christie Kolk. Harold will also be greatly missed by his surviving wife Winifred (Rottman Deur) Kolk of 32 years and her children: Vonda (Tom) Brasser, Dave (Sharon) Deur, and Tom (Robin) Deur, in addition to 16 grandchildren & 14 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Dottie Rosenberg; by his brother Martin Kolk; and by several nieces & nephews. Harold will be remembered as a gentle, loving, generous, and kind man. Elaine was born on February 9, 1955 in Fargo, North Dakota to Ingvald and Inez (Cogdill) Nelson and later moved to the West Michigan area. Elaine graduated from Muskegon Community College with a Respiratory Therapist Degree but later became a dietary aide. Elaine worked at the Gerber Memorial Health Services in Fremont for over 20 years as a dietary aide in the food service department until her retirement in 2019. Elaine treasured the time she spent being a mother of 5, grandmother of 10 and great grandmother of 1. She will be truly missed by all her family. Elaine enjoyed her pets, puzzles, playing games, collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia, was a country and western music fan with a special fondness for Garth Brooks. Steven Lyle Neihardt, age 67 of Fremont, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2020 at his home following a lingering illness. Steve was born on December 14, 1952 in Traverse City to Carrol Lewis and Rosella Elizabeth (Pearrault) Neihardt. Steve grew up in the Traverse City area and joined the United States Army where he served during the Vietnam War from 1970-1975 stationed in Panama until his honorable discharge. Following his discharge, Steve returned to the Traverse City area and had worked for the Grand Traverse County office for several years. Steve moved to the Fremont area in 2001and started work with the Newaygo County Sheriff's office as a corrections officer until his retirement in 2011. Steve met and married Rose Davis on June 17, 2000 in Fremont. Steve had been an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police, enjoyed attending the grandchildren’s sports, school and other activities; playing cards and board games; hunting in his younger years and loved his dogs.
