Hiring Party coming to Newaygo
NEWAYGO – If you’re looking for work or looking to change employers, Michigan Works! West Central is ready to help you advance your career. In an effort to connect local job seekers with hiring employers, Michigan Works! West Central is hoping a free lunch will attract individuals looking for work to take part in one of its upcoming Hiring Parties. For the third summer in a row, the organization is holding Hiring Parties in each of the six counties it represents to connect employers and job seekers. The large-scale job fairs are set up like block-party events where attendees can stop at each booth to grab a portion of their meal, as well as talk to employers about open positions they have available. More than 40 local employers are expected to be at each event. “Our annual Hiring Parties are a great way to bring job seekers and employers together in a relaxed atmosphere, all while sharing lunch together,” said Michigan Works! West Central Executive Director Shelly Keene. “New this year, several of our Hiring Parties also will feature a resource fair to connect residents with services available at area agencies and organizations. Our goal is to connect those looking for work with employers and those looking for assistance with the resources available in our communities.” Michigan Works! West Central is holding its next Hiring Party of the summer from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, at its Newaygo service center, located at 9075 S. Mason Drive. The organization will provide hot dogs, and participating employers will provide snacks, sides, drinks and more. Additional events are scheduled through mid-July. According to the Michigan Bureau of Labor Market Information, Newaygo County’s unemployment rate in March 2024, was 4.1 percent (the most recent data available), which is slightly higher than the Michigan and national averages, which were both at 3.9 percent during the same period. “In the first two years, we helped a total of 244 people find work through our Hiring Parties! These events are a great way for job seekers to get more information about local employers and the positions they’re looking to fill,” Keene said. “If you’re looking for work or looking to change jobs, come to any one of our summer Hiring Parties. We’re serving up hot dogs and job opportunities!” For a complete schedule of Michigan Works!
