![]() Trash, Transportation Topics Addressed At BOC Meeting By N3 News Team The Newaygo County Board of Commissioners approved the 2017 agreements with local attorney groups for Public Defender services at Circuit and District court at their regular meeting on Wednesday November 23rd. During the meeting Jason O’Connell of the Employee Representation Committee presented the quarterly casual day donations to Phil Gabel of TrueNorth Community Services for the organization’s annual.. ...Children’s Christmas Program. For many years this kindhearted initiative has ensured area children in need receive hats, mittens, gloves, books, art supplies, toys, and games for Christmas.
Commissioners approved a request by Drain Commissioner Dale Twing and the Solid Waste Management Planning Committee to export solid waste to Wayne County who has the capacity as well as an incinerator for the purpose of waste disposal. Drain Commissioner Twing explained that the facility in Kent County is maxed out leading to the agreement with Wayne County. This is being done at no cost to the county with the cost being borne by the company requiring the disposal services. Ada Linderman Program Manager of the Disability Network of Newaygo County used public comment time to ask about recent transportation initiatives and question the direction of current efforts. While not addressed specifically Ms. Linderman was encouraged to meet with Administrator Chris Wren following the meeting to answer her concerns about transportation in Newaygo County. During miscellaneous comment time by the Board Commissioner Jim Maike explained that exploring the transportation issue looks to be a slow process and reassured that the organization that Ms. Linderman represents would ‘have a seat at the table’ as this matter progresses. Commissioner Pat Gardner spoke of several vacancies on the various county boards and encouraged interested parties to submit applications to the County Clerk's’ office. The boards include: Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan Board of Public Works Brownfield Authority Board District 5 Extension Council Parks Commission Pere Marquette & White River Zoning Boards Road Commission Library Board Mental Health Board Applications are accepted on an on-going basis for vacancies existing on boards and commissions.
