The Newaygo Marching Band competed at MCBA (Michigan Competing Bands Association) State Championships on Saturday, November 4th and came home silver medalists with a score of 89.675. The Band was ranked second in the State before Championships, and maintained their standing after their performance on Saturday. Their show this year was entitled “The Hope of Spring” and included four themed movements: Frozen, Sunlight, Storm, and Bloom. Director Katie Baynes stated she was extremely happy with their overall standing and performance this season. “This is the best the band has ever sounded!” Said Ms. Baynes. “Their playing and musical ability really reached a high point this year. I am very happy with the amount of time, dedication, and perseverance the student’s put into this season!” Ms. Baynes also singled out the leadership of senior Lilly Franklin “Lilly really put everything into leading the band in a great direction this year,” she stated. A large part of our musical success can be attributed to her dedication to excellence and dedication to the program.” “I would like to thank all the students, parents, and administrators that made this season a success,” added Ms. Baynes.
