![]() “Run Forrest Run” Benefits Bellwether Harbor By Marianne Boerigter Help support our animal friends on Saturday, June 4 at “Run Forrest Run”, an annual fundraising event of Bellwether Harbor! With a new location and new activities this year, the event has ways for all members of the community to participate and help support animals in need. Beautiful Branstrom Park in Fremont will be the site for fundraising and dog-friendly activities including a 5K Trail Run, 1 mile Fun Walk, Silent Auction, and even a Bake Sale. Forrest, a sly beagle with very fast feet and housed at Bellwether in its first years as an organization, is behind the name of the annual event. Forrest was a charmer and was adopted by a couple from... ...Newaygo about 10 years ago, but staff and volunteers can still tell the stories of his keenness for attempting to run like the wind. His antics and energetic personality prompted the naming of the fundraiser “Run Forrest Run” since the first event twelve years ago.
Since 1994, Bellwether and the Fremont Animal Hospital have been improving the lives of homeless animals. The lives of the people adopting these animals have been enhanced as well. Bellwether Harbor has the ability to house approximately 12 dogs and 35-40 cats. A training room is used for training classes as well as providing space to exercise the dogs and cats. With the goal of helping animals and people make a connection through education, training and adoption, Bellwether is more than an animal shelter; it is a resource for our area though additional programs such as their “Lost and Found Database”, “Memorial Garden” and “Pet-Pals” which provides education and hands-on training for young people. All the animals cared for at Bellwether will benefit from your support at “Run Forrest Run”. As a dog-friendly event for friendly dogs, it is a perfect event for the whole family. It will be smooth walking on the 1 mile Fun Walk on paved pathways of the park, or for the more adventurous, the timed 5K Trail Run on the same course the Fremont Cross Country team runs. The Silent Auction and Bake Sale will be held in the Lodge at Branstrom Park. On-site registration for the walk and run begins at 8:00 a.m., with the Trail Run beginning promptly at 9:00 a.m. The Fun Walk begins at 9:15 a.m. Silent Auction bidding and Bake Sale also begins at 8:00 a.m. An awards ceremony for 2-legged and 4-legged participants will be at 10:30 a.m. Branstrom Park in Fremont is located approximately one mile north of downtown off Darling Street.
