This past year, the Community Foundation surveyed local teachers and worked with a teacher focus group to develop new mini-grant criteria and an easier process for 2017. The simplified application will allow for one application per teacher and up to $750 per grant. A video guide is available at facommunityfoundation.org/minigrants.
“Our goal was to increase the number of teachers supported through mini-grants and to simplify the application process,” said Amy Moore, FACF senior program officer. “Local teachers are doing wonderful work, and we want to encourage and support their creativity and innovation in the classroom.” Education mini-grants are available annually to Newaygo County educators teaching preschool through 12th grade and include private and public schools and state-licensed childhood learning centers. All applications must meet one of the Community Foundation’s education priorities: kindergarten readiness, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math), literacy, remediation, or creating a positive college and career-oriented culture. Applications are due to the Community Foundation by April 15, 2017 and must be submitted through school administration. Educators interested in applying must follow their school’s internal deadlines for review and approval.
