Library Chooses New Leader By N3 News Team In a 4-3 split decision the Newaygo Library Board in a special meeting voted to offer the position of Library Director to Interim Director Kellie Tinkham. The reviews of the four candidates for the position and... ...the decision to move forward with hiring Ms. Tinkham led to Board Member Angela Chase walking out of the meeting after expressing her disappointment in the board’s support of Ms. Tinkham. Board Member Deb Cunningham also voiced concerns over the choice of Ms. Tinkham.
As previously reported in N3 the board has been embroiled in controversy since the October firing of Georgia Kohlbeck by then Director Christina Golm who resigned in April. Ms. Kohlbeck was arraigned on a charge of embezzling last month accused of taking a Christmas ornament, a car owner’s manual, and a utensil reported to be a pair of tongs from the library. She entered a plea of not guilty and her attorney requested a jury trial. Ms. Kohlbeck's next court date is this Friday at 9am in White Cloud. Board members supporting Ms. Tinkham cited the quality of her work as Interim Director, her leadership skills, and her familiarity with the library and the community as factors in their decision.
