On March 16, 2020 at approximately 5:12 pm, Deputies from the Newaygo County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 3588 E Fox Drive, in Grant Township on a report of a female being held against her will at gunpoint. Upon arrival on scene, law enforcement was setting up a perimeter around the house when the female was able to escape out of the house unharmed. Newaygo County Emergency Response Team arrived on scene and started negotiations with the male suspect. After hours of negotiations, the male suspect surrendered peacefully. The male suspect was taken into custody and lodged at the Newaygo County Jail on charges of assault with intent to murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and assault with a dangerous weapon. All names are being withheld pending formal arraignment at the 78th District Court. Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police, Grant Police Department, Fremont Police Department, Ashland-Grant Fire District, Life EMS and Newaygo County Central Dispatch.
