![]() Elon Howe At The Museum The Newaygo County Museum and Historical Society will be rolling out the latest installment of their popular Heritage Speaker Series on Wednesday June 15th when lifelong resident and local historian Elon Howe sheds some light on the rich history of Brooks Creek. Mr. Howe will take us back to a time when Brooks Creek was a major force powering the area’s early economy and reveal the ghostly... ...remnants that remain from a way of life long departed. He will also speak to his dream of once again seeing a working mill on the creek that would be available for tours, another way of preserving the lumber-driven legacy of the area.
Mr. Howe is an annual participant in the NCCA Artsplace/Dogwood Center Luthier’s Concert a celebration of the craftsmen who practice the art of instrument making. He has been creating award-winning violins, violas and cellos as well as the occasional mandolin in the shop adjacent to his home for many years. His presentation will run from 6:30pm-8:00pm followed by a question and answer session until 8:30pm. The Newaygo Museum and Heritage Center is located at 12 Quarterline Road in downtown Newaygo.
