N3 drops the ball on Grant School Bond results
In 1948 the Chicago Daily Tribune operating on so called experts and many prognostications (along with a rather itense dislike for Harry Truman) jumped the gun a bit and proclaimed Republican candidate Thomas Dewey as the winner of the Presidential race. Except he wasn’t. The erroneous headline produced a classic photo of Truman holding the newspaper up with a victorius grin on his face. We imagine the Trib foks were chagrined. So were we when we posted the results of Tuesday’s election and included the Grant school bond issue as having passed. It didn’t. We made the mistake of only accessing the Newaygo County vote which had the Proposal passing by a 593 to 580 margin. With Muskegon and a handful of Kent County folks voting no by a 127-67 count included, the school vote went down 707 to 660. We apologize for not doing out homework on this and will strive to do better in the future. Thankfully this journalistic faux pas didn’t match the headline of The Vancouver Sun in 1912. “Titanic Sinking-No Lives Lost” Comments are closed.
