![]() Board Holds First Post Election Meeting By Ken DeLaat A rather short agenda greeted the Newaygo County Board of Commissioners as they resumed business following Election Day with a meeting on Thursday November 10th. Board members Christian Ortwein, Patrick Gardner, James Maike, Charles Trapp and Phil Deur won reelection with only Commissioner Ortwein facing opposition in Tuesday’s balloting. Commissioner’s Steven Johnson and Larry Lethorn are serving out their terms with their seats being claimed by... ..Brian Kolk and Lavern Willett who each ran unopposed as well.
Christopher Wren has completed his first 6 months as the County Administrator and delivered a review on some of the accomplishments achieved in that time. Mr. Wren dealt out many accolades and appreciation for the assistance he has received from employees, elected officials, department heads and the administrative staff since his arrival in White Cloud. Administrator Wren cited the Purdue University study expectations of an 11% increase in regional population in the coming years and what it might mean to the area, took note of the success of the Welcome Center volunteer initiative, and spoke to the efforts being made to look into public transportation options. Speaking to the transportation issue he stated,”This is definitely a steep mountain to climb and will be difficult if even possible.” “But it would be a disservice to the community to not look into it.” Commissioners considered two recommendations from the Reclassification Panel who reviewed two appeals regarding pay grade placements for a Circuit Court position and a District Court position. The panel recommended one to remain at the same level and the other to move up one pay grade. Commissioners voted unanimously after some discussion, to follow the panel’s suggestions. The next Board of Commissioners meeting will be Wednesday, November 23rd, the day before Thanksgiving, at 9:30 am. Comments are closed.
